How much do you spend on gifts?

Just curious to see what people spend on their H's for their birthday and christmas.

It depends for me. If there is something that M wants I will usually buy it.  Some years I spend $100 and others $300-$400.  He's hard to buy for b/c he usually buys whatever he needs.

Re: How much do you spend on gifts?

  • This past year it was like $20 because the wedding was so soon. The year before (his 30th) it was around $300. I'd say normally I spend about $50 most years.

  • Birthday is usually a couple video games, so about $100--if he gets anything at all. Sometimes I get him something too expensive for Christmas and tell him Merry Christmas AND Happy Birthday (his bday is in March). Christmas is usually around $300, but things like a nice camera and bike have gone over and spilled over to the birthday combo gift.

This year I sorta behaved at Christmas (thanks to Amazon and their amazingly low prices) but it's his 30th birthday, so birthday is a huge splurge trip to Vegas.  On the flip side, I get a huge splurge 30th birthday trip in Sept!

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • For J's birthday in December, I only spent about $30. Usually I spend a little more, but I had only been working a month and didn't have much saved up. Plus we were trying to save other places, as well. Things have really turned around for us, and now DH spent about $300 on my birthday. I guess a lot of that was for both of us, so that doesn't really count, right?

Anyway, it really varies from year to year.

  • Mike is really hard to shop for and has really expensive taste...and I spoil him rotten! If there's something he really wants, I'll usually sacrifice eating out/shopping/etc to be able to buy it for him. So, spending over $1,000 for a particular gift happens more often than I'd like to admit.
  • One year I spent about $1000 taking him to chicago for the weekend and getting him Cubs tickets.  Most years I spend $100 - $200 for birthdays.
  • Usually about $250 for birthdays.  This year we're splurging and going to Mexico as our presents to each other (our birthdays are 2 weeks apart in Feb). Christmas, depending on what we want/need and the economy, could be anywhere from $300-500
I'm friends with everybody in this office. We're all best friends - I love everybody here. But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late, and start having dentist appointments that aren't dentist appointments. And that's when it is nice to let them know that you can beat them up.
  • He usually tells me not to get him anything, but I buy some clothes anyways. We like to do big gifts too, like family vacations.
  • DH doesn't celebrate his birthday, so $0 for that.

I like to go all-out at Christmas, but this year I just couldn't. I spent about $30. I will also try to surprise him during the year randomly with gifts (for things like "Happy Anniversay of Our First Trip together" and stuff.)

  • We tried to set a limit of $100/occassion when we were in school and pre wedding but neither of us stuck to that. This year, I bought him an iPhone for his b-day along with about $100 worth of other stuff and then about $100 or so for X-mas (B-day is a week before X-mas). Last year, I broke the rule again. Oh well. DH got me a cruise so he broke the rule too!
  • Christmas is our big holiday.  We spend $200-$300 on each other for Christmas, and maybe $50-$75 for birthdays (not counting a fancy dinner out).

I think we are planning to take a trip each year for our anniversary in lieu of gifts (well I will probably insist on cards too because I love them)

  • For christmas I spent around $150 and I think for his bday I spent $75.  We usually like to keep it around that price range.

Except for this Valentines day.  I'm splurging and getting us a $200 couples massage

If I wasn't so happily married myself, I would totally marry you.

As for gifts, we usually keep it around $100, though I guess it varies.

  • Anywhere from $100-350ish depending on the holiday what he wants (he likes big ticket items).  This year (the year we said we weren't spending any money)....I had already spent close to $200 and then he went and bought himself a $550 MUST have purchase.  So needless to say it depends and we never stick to what we say we're going to spend.

  • I just realized that this year I gave my husband $700 in birthday presents.  His life rules.

  • We generally spend about $100.  If we want or need something we just buy it.  And his birthday is the day before Valentine's Day so when we total up the weekend it ends up being quite a bit more.

  • It varies when it's just gifts usually $50-$150. When we go out of town it ends up around $500

  • generally $200-300 per occasion, but sometimes more (if we take a trip) or sometimes less. We have Christmas, my birthday, his birthday, and then Valentine's day so it gets to be a huge expense quickly.

For our anniversary, we plan splurging a little more every year (nice trip, big ticket item for house, etc).
