Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in?
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 11 weeks, 1 day
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm ok, he went for another followup for the acid reflux and we are staying on the current dose - check up in 2 weeks. He also went to the dr over the weekend b/c he had a cold and I was concerned about his wheezing... turned out to be ok, but I felt better that I took him in
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next well visit is March 12 for him... I saw the OB last week b/c I'm having some heavy bleeding
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought? We didn't buy it, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE our mobile, especially b/c LO does too!
(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/done for yourself? This huge body pillow
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant? I drank caffeine in moderation, but it was definitely hard not to have that. Lunchmeat was probably the worst thing... I'm a huge fan of Subway!
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH? for me: I like the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy, the Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy and the Girlfriends' Guide to surviving the First Year (definitely should be read before you deliver - most of it was about the first few weeks) oh and definitely Baby Bargains!
for DH, the best one has been "Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads"... also liked a DVD called "Being Dad: Information and Inspiration for Dads to Be"
(9) For mommies: how did you find the costs associated with LOs are different from what you expected? Since I expected to breastfeed, I didn't expect to pay for formula, and that's been quite an expense. That's been the biggest thing. Even with the coupons. I'm also horrible at going to Buy Buy Baby or BRU and seeing some cute article of clothing and buying it!
BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers...link to your chart! pictures in the blog
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
37w5d - holy cow, I'm next up to bat!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
So ready for this baby to be out. (And sorry to exite some of you with my FB status! Haha.) I had a busy night at work last night and was on my feet for most of the 12 hours. And pretty much whenever baby moves (which is constantly) I get major lightning crotch. Like there's an ice pick stabbing my cervix. NOT FUN. I had tons of contractions all night, too, and I kept hoping they'd start to get painful but it's just a lot of BH.
Please send some labor dust my way, mamas!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Dr. appt tomorrow. Hoping there's some progress! Not that it really means anything.
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought?
Maybe this blanket I bought that has cherry blossoms on it. Because I love cherry blossoms.(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself?
A cute sling - that's kinda for myself, right? Oh, and our recliner/glider. It's so comfy, I napped on it the other day.
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant?
Snowboarding! I'm bummed I'm missing this whole season after I bought a whole cute new outfit at the end of last season. And I only got to ride my new board a couple times last season.
I also can't wait for a cold beer. Haha.
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH?
Most of the books I got were more for B than myself since he has no experience with babies and I get paid to change diapers. I got Heading Home with Your Newborn: From Birth to Reality and Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads based on amazon reviews. They've both turned out to be great resources.
1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
37 weeks, 3 days. Maya is 2 yrs, 5 mths old
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Better physically, since the weather has cooled down over the past week or so.
Emotionally, I've been cherishing the time alone that I have with Maya. I have been having naps with her, our noses touching, her arm cuddled around my neck. We've had giggle/singing sessions and lots of story-time.
She doesn't comprehend that there is a baby in my tummy, even if I can occasionally get her to say "baby in mummy's tummy". I know that she is going to be missing out on some of the attention that she is used to, at least for the first little while, and there's a big part of me that feels guilty! As if I'm 'cheating' on her, for want of a better term lol!
I am also feeling nervous about how I'm going to cope alone (when Josh is at work) with two munchkins. Small things, like "what do I do when it's Maya's naptime and Nugget is screaming up a storm?" etc.
I know that a LOT of parents wonder how they can love another child the way they love their firstborn and I know they soon learn that it's a case of their love expanding, instead of dividing. I look forward to feeling that!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Another appointment in a few hours from now. Should get my test results back for GBS swab I did last week and another test (for my skin rash).
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought?
Didn't buy a whole lot this time around as we have quite a lot of gear from when Maya was a newborn. From that, I'd say the Ergo Carrier.
This time around, we bought this My Little Lamb Cradle N Swing for Nugget. Hopefully he/she will like it!
http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2002&e=demo&pid=45667(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself?
Ohhhhh, I finally used the pregnancy pampering spa gift certificate that Josh gave me for my birthday last August! It was at a spa that specializes in pregnancy pampering.
So, I got an hour long facial, where I was slathered (face/neck and chest area) in the most yummy smelling potions and creams. I was treated to a shoulder, scalp and upper chest massage during the facial.
Then I was led to a comfy mat on the floor and propped up comfortable with body pillows etc where I was treated to an all over relaxing body massage for an hour. Best.Massage.Ever!
Then I was given the most amazing foot treatment/massage/pedi!
I floated out of there!
It reminded me not to keep on neglecting myself, to MAKE time to do little pampering things for myself, to take care of me too, not just my munchkins and husband.
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant?
Hmmm I'd have to say wine & cheese sessions. Especially the soft cheeses, like blue vein etc mmmmmm.
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH?
The Australian Baby Guide (it's a book, but here is their website too)
http://www.australianbabyguide.com.au/
and
Birth Skills - Juju Sundin and Sarah Murdoch http://www.amazon.com/Juju-Sundins-Birth-Skills-Pain-Management/dp/1741750970
I second 'Being Dad' dvd for dads AND mum's. It's filmed for dad's but mums would totally get a lot out of it too, especially just hearing the male perspective on pregnancy/birth/being a new dad.
(9) For mommies: how did you find the costs associated with LOs are different from what you expected?
Hmmm, not a lot different to what I expected. I guess the biggest thing is how fast LO's go through clothes. The clothes (especially in Australia, as Lisa will attest to) are just as expensive as adult clothing, it's ridonkulous!
Christine, we're totally neck and neck, what is there...3 days between our due dates?!
We both knew that but now that it's getting closer, it's like "Ohhhhh race ya to the finish line!" Lol!
Oh, yeah! Haha. I bet you'll go first since this is your second. Are you dilated/effaced yet?
yes! we had a great time watching it!
Elyse is 6 weeks this week.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm feeling great. I've lost all but two pounds of my pregnancy weight... but nothing looks the same anymore
I guess all those nights of sweating through my PJs was helpful.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
We went for our 6 week check up with the midwife yesterday. Elle is doing great and growing like a cute little weed. We're now discharged to my family doctor.
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought?
I LOVE the swing. It almost always calms Elle. We were lucky because we got it second hand for an amazing price.
I know lots of people think they're silly (we mocked them before we got one). But I really like my wipe warmer.
(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself?
I had a maternity massage and pedicure the week before I gave birth and I REALLY needed it at that point.
I just went out and bought myself some comfy sweaters so I didn't have to wear my maternity clothes anymore. Most of my other clothes are "work" clothes so I needed some casual shirts.
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant?
I missed running and my running group. Other than that I didn't miss very much.
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH?
MH didn't read any books. I forwarded him all the weekly updates from BabyCenter and we both enjoyed "What to Expect When Your Expecting".
(9) For mommies: how did you find the costs associated with LOs are different from what you expected?
I'm EBFing and we've been given so much so I haven't spent much on Elyse since she's been born. I have and continue to spend money on the nursery (organizationaly and for decorations). I only did the basics before she was born, but now that I'm settled into life with her I'm enjoying organizing the nursery and buying things for her.
We're contributing money every month to an education fund, but I had expected that.
Married Bio
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 14 weeks, 2 days
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Pretty good! I certainly have my appetite back as I, um, ate an entire frozen pizza for dinner tonight....yikes! I haven't done that since I was a teenager. I promise I usually eat better than that, I don't know what came over me! Although I don't have the energy that everyone promised me I'd have in the 2nd tri. I think I'm going to bed soon, and it's only 7:15.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Regular appt. next Thursday (16 week appt.)
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought? The only BR item we've bought so far was a Beaba BabyCook. We got a GC for Williams-Sonoma for Christmas, so that's what I used it for.
(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/done for yourself? My new body pillow, I can sleep without back pain again!
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant? I' never drank caffeine before being pregnant, and I'm not much of a drinker, so I'm probably in the minority on this one, but deli meat! I used to eat a turkey or ham sandwich every day for lunch. Although my doctor told me to go ahead, I'm still too nervous and have only had it once.
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH? "Baby Bargains" and "Your Pregnancy: Week by Week." MH isn't much of a reader, but he likes "Pregnancy Sucks: For Men" for laughs now and then.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
8 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Feeling good. . . nothing really "new." Brooke can feed herself puffs (which supposedly takes a lot of coordination?) and get into a upright sitting position from the "crawling" position
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
9 month checkup
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought?
Anything that will occupy her for more than 5 minutes. .. it was the exersaucer (which I still use to put in front of the bathroom door so I can shower), and various toys
(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself?
Not sure... haven't really bought anything for myself recently.
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant?
When I was PG I couldn't wait to drink a beer or have a glass of wine, but now that I'm not PG I don't drink anymore...
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH?
At nights I would skim through WTEWYE and the week by week pregnancy book... MH never read any books.
(8) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? Is there a good website for a primer on TTC for those of us who don?t understand the code? J
(9) For mommies: how did you find the costs associated with LOs are different from what you expected?
Diapers are ridiculously expensive, other than that, I knew that having a baby was going to be costly...

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
2 months 2 weeks
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
life is finally a bit more normal... A is STTN and she is able to entertain herself a bit and is willing to hang out by herself w/o crying now (at least for short periods of time) so I am finally able to get the little things done, like brushing my teeth twice a day and showering regularly
I also have time to cook a bit now too, so that's nice.
A is doing lots of smiling and giggling now, esp in response to me doing it - I love it, it's so cute. She has enough head control now that when I am carrying her around the house I don't have to worry about supporting her head anymore.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
not until she is 4 months - vaccine boosters
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought?
I know this sounds silly, but I love the CDs we're using... it makes me feel great that we are being eco-friendly and saving so much money at the same time(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself?
MH got me a spa certificate to unwind during the post partum period - it was heavenly.
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant?
activities like zip lining and scuba diving while on vacation
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH?
I didn't buy any books - someone gave me "what to expect when you're expecting" and that was a semi-helpful book but not necessary b/c the newsletters from the bump and babycenter that came weekly were pretty good. MH didn't read any books!
someone else gave me "what to expect the first year" and I've enjoyed that book, though I am having a hard time finding time to read it - wish I had started it when I was PG
ETA: I forgot, the most helpful book I purchased was Baby Bargains, couldn't have done w/o it!
(8) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? Is there a good website for a primer on TTC for those of us who don?t understand the code?
(9) For mommies: how did you find the costs associated with LOs are different from what you expected?
it hasn't really been that different, honestly. we haven't really had to go out and buy anything since she was born b/c we had already gotten everything before she was born. I bought clothes from consignment sales and then we were given tons more as gifts...and then my cousin just gave us a bunch of hand me downs from her two daughters so we probably won't have to buy clothes for quite some time. we EBF and use CDs with cloth wipes so we really don't have any ongoing costs right now w/her. the only purchase i see in the foreseeable future is a high chair and a new car seat once she outgrows her infant seat.

My Food Blog - Good Eats 'n Sweet Treats
I don't know, they don't really do internals here in Aus (well, at least I think it's a generalised thing...I didn't have any internals for when I was pregnant with Maya or this one). The consensus is that they feel it's invasive to the mother and not really necessary.
Bit nervous now though because this baby is turning out to be quite the little flipper. I put it on my FB status message but the gist is, three weeks ago he/she was transverse (lying sideways). Last week, he/she was head down and I breathed a sigh of relief. THIS week, he/she is head up!
Now, I guess it stands to reason that, if bubs is flipping around in there so much, then it can also mean that he/she can flip right back down just as easily. Yet, I worry because I have a heart-shaped uterus which means there is a little bit at the top of my uterus (septum) sticking down and could get in the way of bub turning back down.
Doc mentioned a caesar. Next week, if baby is still head up, I'm gonna tell them I will attempt a breech birth. A caesar is my absolute last resort and I'm gonna stand firm on that (as long as baby isn't in danger).
HA! Good to know I'm not the only one... I still enjoy a beer or wine if we are out but one is enough. That is a big change for me. It's like I've lost the desire to drink... We used to have wine every night with dinner!

I have too! I thought I was the only one. Glad to know I have company!
Alexa is 20 weeks (4 1/2 months)!!! (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm feeling great. Have been going to Stroller Striders and running. Working hard to get back into shape! I am now down 27 pounds but still have 10-15 to go. Argh!
Alexa is rolling all over the place now, both ways. We had to put up breathable bumpers because she sticks her arms through the crib and bangs her head! She is sleeping on her tummy now and I think she likes it. Her new thing is when she is on her tummy, she gets up onto her knees and tries to move. She's not moving yet but I think it'll be a matter of time before she crawls! (3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Our next appointment is her 6 month check-up in March. (4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought?
Only ONE thing?
I am obsessed with baby carriers and love the collection I have amassed. My favorites are the Belle, Moby and Baby Hawk.
I LOVE the newborn photos we had done, which I bought...
The nursery decor, like the decals, "ALEXA" letters and framed bird prints all make me happy when I am in her room...
The Infantino Twist & Fold activity mat has been probably the best investment ever - She's been on it every day since she was a month old!
Her other favorite toys include: Plain plastic links; the Oball; the Winkel; Sophie the Giraffe; Doll with crinkle skirt...
As far as attire... I LOVE her Baby Legs! And we use her Sock-Ons pretty much every day. Oh, and she has this ridiculous bright pink pom-pom hat that is ridiculously cute. (5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself?See above. Oh wait, for myself? Who is that? Do cute Bravado nursing tops count? DH wants me to go buy myself some Uggs but I keep not having time. I also have a gift certificate that I want to use for a massage but I keep not having time. I really should do those things for myself before I forget who me is.....(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant?Soft cheese. Beer. Margaritas.(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH?Most Helpful: Baby Bargains / Breastfeeding Made Simple / Secrets of the Baby WhispererFun Reads: Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy / Bump in the Road / Sippy Cups are not for Chardonnay (9) For mommies: how did you find the costs associated with LOs are different from what you expected?
What I expected. Diapers are expensive and she goes through them quickly! Costs will go up as she begins to eat solids and if I have to use formula at some point. So far, so good. BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers...link to your chart!

(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Crappy right now, to be honest. Just got my GD results back and it's not looking good. I have to have the longer test to confirm, but the result is bad enough that I'd say it's a done deal...not the end of the world, but it still kinda blows!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Feb 1 - just a checkup. Oh, and whenever my follow-up GD test is scheduled for, if that counts.
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought? Well...we don't really have much yet lol! We have ordered several things, but none have arrived yet. Out of what we have...maybe the rocker? It's comfy and was freeeeee!
(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself? Got a pedicure. I don't get them regularly and OMG it made me feel so much better about myself!
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant? To be honest, nothing has really been too bad. I'd say maybe the occasional drink - I'm not a huge drinker, but in the middle of summer a cold beer is soooo nice...
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH? The Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy is excellent...and if you're having twins, When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads is a must-have! I got Ben two books, both of which he really likes - My Boys Can Swim! (which is basically just a funny book) and The Expectant Father (which I've flipped through and it presents everything YH needs to know in a very accessible way).
Ooooh let me know how you like the swing - this is the one I've got my eye on!
Will do! Josh is going to assemble it this weekend. Was gonna buy the rainforest Fisher Price one but the lamb swing got a lot more (and better) reviews.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
See the doctor tomorrow and will be discharged home from the hospital! Libby's first doctor appt. is 02.02.10...newborn photoshoot on 02.04.10.
That is, if the predicted ice storm this weekend doesn't change our plans! Wish us luck!
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought?
Right now? Nursing tanks, Lanisoh and My Brest Friend Deluxe!
(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself?
While pg...nice maternity clothes for work. I never really felt shlumpy until week 37 or so.
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant?
I gave up so much of it before getting pg (alcohol, coffee, etc.)...I did miss our weekly sushi nights while PG though!
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH?
Bradley Birth...The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding...Mayo Clinic Guide to Pregnancy
Even shopping second-hand and crazy deals it's EXPENSIVE! We had planned to rent a breast pump from the hospital for the first 4 weeks or so...well it's going to be $150! So plan B...we'll buy a manual pump today before heading home and then, next month, get my Medela Freestyle (which I've found for like $285 online).

(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Often nauseous & still a pukey smurf from time to time.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Feb 4 - 1st dr appt
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought?
haven't really bought anything yet - though right after the storm (at least 4 years ago!) I bought an "I ? NOLA" onesie for my unborn/unconceived baby!
(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself? the only thing i have bought are a few books
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant? not really one thing to give up, but just more to be worried about everything I eat - like is this okay to eat or have I just not got that far in my book to read that this particular thing has been proven to make your baby develop a 2nd fully functional head.
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH? I have been reading Dr. Oz's You Having A Baby & WTEWYE - I also bought Expectant Father & a funny one for DH, but I dont' think he has looked at them yet. He is too all engrossed with Saints football these days!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 36w, 1d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm feeling pretty great minus the heavy and slow feeling that comes with being this far along. I had a really bad bout of heartburn/reflux over the weekend. Blech! Everything was normal at the MW appt yesterday.
SIL announced she is PG with #2, due in August. Yay for her. DD #1 is 1.5 now.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?down to the weekly appts now - so I go back next week, get the GBS results. I will continue with probiotics and supplements either way. Nothing exciting happening at them. I don't do internals or ultrasounds so it's basically just weigh-in, pee in a cup, and BP check.
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought?I really love everything
I love the nursery. It's the first room (besides the living room) people see when they come in the house and I love that it's a bright happy looking room.
(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself? nice maternity clothes. Not something I bought specifically for pregnancy, but I think the kindle will come in handy during nursing and pumping.
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant? soft cheese, although I did eat some occasionally. a nice micro beer at weekly happy hour with friends.
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH? I enjoyed aspects of the mayo clinic book. Birthing from Within, Penny Simkins pregnancy, childbirth, and the newborn, and The Thinking Women's Guide to a Better birth.
we have this swing and my only gripe about it is that it does not plug into the wall so if you use it a lot, be prepared to go through a lot of batteries. that said, we don't turn it on often, we just push it a bit for A and she seems to like that enough
she usually falls asleep
by the time the momentum has stopped the swing. she didn't like it
initially but she likes it now. wouldn't say she loves it, but she
likes it. maybe as she gets bigger she will grow to love it, but we
dont' rely on it like some parents seem to

good point. I only considered swings with the plug in option (I still cringe at how many toys, etc. require batteries - I can't remember the last time we bought batteries, it takes us years to go through the costco packs but with a baby/kid that will probably be changing
).
Anyways... I don't know much about the little lamb swing but it looks a lot like the one I registered for and got as a gift.
FP starlight swing
it plugs in and does the same 2 rocking motions as the lamb one. Can't say if I like it in real life/with a baby, but we put it together and turned it on and it seems really nice - and it all depends on the baby anyways...
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I feel pretty good. My joints aren't as achy as before and I am sleeping well through the night. Excitement is finally starting to replace some of my anxiety over giving birth.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Tuesday for an ultrasound!
(4) Favorite baby-related item you?ve bought? We did pick an awesome gender-neutral paint color for the nursery -- "mystic iris," a cheery purplish-blue. No baby item faves yet, but I'm crossing my fingers that everything bought turns out to be a hit since we're trying to minimalists with our purchases.
(5) Favorite thing you?ve bought/did for yourself? I buy myself clothes fairly regularly. I don't buy maternity stuff because it generally makes me feel frumpy and it's $$, so I shop a size or two up in the Jrs dept at Ross or buy the "long" sizes at Old Navy so I can still feel young and "normal." I also devote more time to doing my hair each day. When I don't, I can easily get down on myself and my changing figure.
(6) What?s been the hardest thing you?ve had to give up while pregnant? My exercise routines. I'm still active, but I do get restless when I can't do certain things I normally enjoy. And it's not because of concerns over weight; it's really just missing the pleasure I used to get from being outdoors and working my body in healthy ways.
(7) What books have you found most helpful? What about for YH? Birthing from Withing (some parts are a bit tree-huggerish, but the information is excellent), The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy, and The Expectant Father (both DH and I read it).
Ohhh good to hear! The 'fall asleep' thing is one of the benefits I'm kinda hoping for lol!
