Do You Like Games at Showers?

I am very anti game.  I just don't see why they always have to be played.  My SIL is aware of that and still had them at my bridal shower.  Whatever, I suffered through them while she asked me asinine questions like what was the name of DH's elementary school mascot and what his pant size is (which BTW, I got right, and she fought with me about because her DH and my DH are twins and she took the sizes from her DH's clothes, who weighs 30lbs more than my DH). Anyway, she and my sis are now planning my baby shower.  She just emailed me a list of games saying "I know that you don't like them, but we need at least three".  I don't mean to sound ungrateful since she is hosting this for me, but it seems like she has been all about her since day one on this.  We are having it on a day that does not really work for me, she wanted a theme that I hated (luckily sis backed me up on that one), and now the stupid games.

So, I was just wondering, am I the ONLY person who doesn't like the games at showers?? Am I just a spoil sport??

Re: Do You Like Games at Showers?

  • I'm not a huge game person either.  I don't mind games that don't really involve me as the center of attention, but for the most part I'm not a fan.
  • Dislike. Majorly. I'd rather drink.

Which I guess is looked down upon at a baby shower. But hey, it's a party!

I do know some friends who have decorated onsies at a shower. They said that was pretty fun.

  • I'm not really into them.  If it's something pretty basic and doesn't really involve me doing much, it's not a big deal, but overall I prefer it when there aren't games.

    Oh, I love this!!

I have no problems with people drinking at my baby shower, that's usually what I do to amuse myself when I am at them!

  • I don't like them either, and I don't really understand why the bride/new mom is always forced to play them.

The only "game" I've ever enjoyed, and seen the new mom enjoy, at a baby shower was a baby-related Mad Libs.  The host found it online and it turned out to be hilarious.

  • I'm not huge on games, and I don't understand why she thinks you "have to have them". Especially so many. . . I like the idea of decorating onesies or something else interactive that would allow people to mingle.
  • I'm not a big fan of them, but I ALWAYS win ugh! Like the one where you guess how many candies are in the jar and the "poopy diaper" game with the melted candy bars and the word scrambles and baby bingo... Never fails. Then I get dirty looks from everyone for getting the prizes lol!
  • I like the creative ones, only.  Like the wedding dress out of toilet paper or that onesie decoration idea.

The other ones are stupid.  Everyone feels so awkward.

  • Im not much of a game person..Either is my sister

For her shower I did two games.

One was, one everyone was arriving I pinned a clothes pin on them and told them they couldnt say BABY. If they heard someone say baby, they could steal their clothes pin. the one with the most wins.

The other was guess the size of the belly.

I looooooathe the poopy diaper game and refuse to play it!

  • Lamesauce. I'd rather mingle.

That was the first thing I told her.  If she even planned on doing it, well then let's just call the whole thing off.  I just talked my my sis and she came up with another good one.  You set the timer while opening presents and whose ever present you are opening when the timer goes off, that person wins.  That's a game I can get behind, it requires no participation.

  • Yeah we played that timed game at a shower I went to! I didnt win, but it was cool and the anticipation was killing me! LOL
  • I like simple games...the clothespin one (whoever says whatever special word of the day or crosses their leg loses their pin), wordsearch, guess the belly size, etc. I hate the poopy diaper one. One game I liked is the cotton ball one...not sure of the point of it but its fun to watch!
  • I hate games.  I'm a very poor loser so I try to stay away as much as possible.  To me, games at showers just prolong them and drag them out.  I like showers that are short and go by quickly.
  • I'm planning on doing some of those games that don't make you the center of attention.  We're doing the clothespin thing, and diaper pins (but our dirty diaper just has brown eyeshadow) that double as nametags.  They're also doing a raffle type thing for every box of wipes/diapers you bring.

Oh, we're also blindfolding the momma and having her see how fast she can diaper a doll - and squirting her with a squirt gun.  Yeah, it's evil, but it's practice for her little boy.

I think it depends on the crowd, we're going to have fun.
