Dairy-Soy and Infertility

Someone just sent me this article.  I found it interesting...

Re: Dairy-Soy and Infertility

  • That's so weird. I've read that same thing about soy!
  • All I have to say is that I drink 1-3 cups of milk a day, and I have for my whole life,  and I had no problems. Not saying it's not a valid point, just that it ddidn't affect me.
  • Hrmmm I guess everything in moderation, Because I actually read where you should up yuor soy and milk intake... so who knows really. Anything in moderation is good for you, anything in excess is bad.
  • I'm with Lore on this one.  I guess there could be a connection may with how some individual's bodies react to those things, but I drink tons of milk, eat soy products and am almost "advanced maternal age" and got preg relatively easily.

This!  Because I know if you are gluten intolerant or have a wheat allergy and it goes untreated or you don't change your diet it can lead it infertility as well.

  • Where were the days when you just 'did it' and no one worried about things like soy, etc?...

(and I know I'm being very general... I'm sure tons of people had probs w pregnancies a good while back, but it seems everything has an affect on something)

  • Coming from a person dealing with infertility, I think that people try to find solutions and answers to things that are simply just unexplainable.  Many people suffer from unexplained infertility and search for answers that just dont exist.  Bottom line is that people dont realize how sensitive SOME people's systems and hormones are.  Some people dont have issues at all which is why certain people can drink and eat all they want and remain fertile myrtle.  But just like with diabetics, some peoples bodies dont react as well or can drastically change because of what they put in their bodies.

This has been proven time and time again by people having fertility issues or even just menstrual regulation issues who change their diet and lifestyle and fall pregnant or "regular" shortly after.  Everything that we put in our bodies can drastically change our fertility or lackthereof.  Again, some people are naturally more fertile than others so it doesn't make a significant difference but others aren't so lucky and find that reducing or sometimes increasing things like dairy, milk, soy, or certain vitamins can balance the horomones in the system just enough to where they regulate things.

  • Interesting.  I've never been a big soy fan, and I don't drink soy milk at all now because it interferes with absorption of my thyroid meds.

As far as milk goes, I'll continue to drink it.  I only buy growth-hormone free milk, which DH finds funny because his dad was involved with the creation of the bovine growth hormone.

  • There are so many little things that people think (or have proven) that may affect fertility.  It is a fine art.

For me - I drank soy and dairy milk a lot.  I got pregnant twice in a year.

They still can't explain with certainty why so many people get pregnant right before starting infertility treatments either.  It is just hard to prove a negative or disprove a positive in such a complex system involving 2 people.

  • Off-topic confession: I think it's weird people drink any kind of milk, especially cow's milk. It's for baby cows! Human beings are like the only species that drinks the milk of another animal that's intended for its young. Soy milk is just effing nasty.

I agree that maybe this is true for maybe a few people, but not the vast majority. I think fertility is a very nuanced thing that is contingent upon a number of various factors -- for all I know, I could stop eating, say, oatmeal and all of a sudden become a fertile person. But I'll never know unless I try to pinpoint random things like that.

I think I'll just take Clomid whenever I get serious about my infertility and want to get knocked up.

Very interesting!  I've never really thought about it that way.  Any idea when people started drinking milk, and why?

  • Probably food scarcity and making the most with the limited resources they had? That's my non-educated guess.

What's super hypocritical about that confession is that I love butter and cheese. Just can't stand milk. Although I do think it's gross that I eat the secretions from huge animals. ::shudder::

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaah Twink STOP!!! LOL I already have milk issues! I can only drink chocolate milk, or like milk in my latte or coffee...same for soy, only when its mixed in something, never straigh up.

I could not survive with out cheese!

Milk called "secretion" = Me Ick!

    Hmm
  • Agent- Sorry to gross it out. :) I'm a total weirdo, I know. I used to drink chocolate milk when I was younger and now I won't even do that.Karrey- Not really a fan of the nasty faces with no explanations. Not really sure what that was for. If you'd like more information about my problems, all you have to do is ask, as Ive been nothing but supportive towards you, always.

This. Plus some people can have adverse reactions to doing certain things to regulate or 'fix' their problem. Someone suggested I take saw palmetto to help lower my testosterone...except it could be risky for me to take it b/c I have a blood-clotting disorder (I explained a bit in a previous post, I think, but for me, I have a slightly higher risk of developing clots, etc - so why risk it). Anyways, I agree with Karrey, and I also think one should also research thoroughly anything that would be a change to your lifestyle/diet to beware of potential side effects.

Whoa! Gear down big shifter!  I was just surpised to see such a drastic measure such as Clomid coming from someone like you who I see as such a healthy, natural remedy-good for the body type of person. Clomid is just a very powerful and not-so-friendly and often abused alternative to other things out there.  I meant no offense by it, geeze.  And as a person suffering from infertility, I by NO means was being unsupportive nor would I ever be to someone dealing with IF.

I think the November '08 board might want to think about calling a ban on that face, since it has start trouble around here several times with a couple of us by being misinterpreted, etc. It's a nasty little face, and without any sort of explanation accompanying it, really just seems, well, rude. At least to me -- maybe I'm in the minority.

I believe you though if you say that it was not meant as judgey.
