Centerpiece HALP!!!

I'm suppoed to bring centerpieces for about 8 tables at a women's brunch this Saturday.  Last year the greenhouse on campus gave us little potted plants for free.  But their manager is new and won't return my phonecalls.  So....what can I use on the tables?  I have no budget.  I don't mind spending a little of my own money, especially if it is something that I can reuse.  Ideas?  Candles are not allowed in the facility and it will be daylight anyway.

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

Re: Centerpiece HALP!!!

  • Do you need them to match? I would hit up a thrift store and get some mismatched vases of about the same size and do fresh flowers.

  • goldfish in bowls, duh.

do you know the caterer?  can you ask for dessert to be the centerpiece?

  • no budget, as in zero dollars and the idea must be for free?

are you going to serve wine or anything? put the wine at the center of the table.

  • I second Jojo's idea.

Is there a theme to the brunch?

  • could you raid the food budget and make wee edible-arrangements?

(they're a butt load of $ if you buy 'em, but, making 'em is easy, IMO)

I'll also 2nd thriftstore (last time we ran into this at work, we found 100's of old bits of lab glasswre slated to be tossed, made sure it was sterile, and basically put a cluster of 3 or 4 wee dropper bottles that didn't have lids/stoppers [this, but, no dropper:

image] of water in the center of each table, each bottle holding 3 or 4 small cheap cut carnations.

It ran us like $20 out of pocket.

  • Really though, some small round simple vases with some fresh flowers would be appropriate.

  • No food budget.  It's a ::looks around, checks for CW, whispers:: potluck.

But I might be able to swing the flowers and vases thing.  I have at least five little vases here and hopefully flowers won't be too much at the grocery store.  Or I could stick with the potluck theme and bring piles of hair and fecal matter.

  • I would try Costco or Sam's club if you have it for the flowers. And go with carnations like GBCK recommended, in clusters they look great.

    Both appropriate AND free!

  • I was looking around for actual ideas and found this:

    3 pieces for $2.99!

  • You could bring burritos as your dish. Wink
    .
  • Baby food jars (or similar small jars) filled with daisies. Cheap and easy.
