A word of advice to the parents out there.....
....please don't be as nutty as the parents I saw last night!
I know that parents are proud of their kids. Heck, I'm sure I'll be just as crazy when the Peapod comes into the world. But who, in their right mind, goes to their child's 3rd grade orchestra concert and actually crawls up onto the stage to get a better photo op?! Mind you, this isn't in a gym.....my school district has a very nice auditorium that just had a renovation last year. There are nice wood/upholstered seats, a large raised stage with black velvet curtains, a balcony, etc. Anyway, this man first goes to the front and stands in front of people to take a photo at the front, which people are specifically asked not to do at the beginning of the concert, but people do all the time anyway. Then he decides to go to the stairs on the side of the stage, and he slowly creeps up them, one by one. Eventually, he is completely ON the stage, standing in front of the cello section. The best part is, then he held both his hands above his head to take a picture of his kid in the second row!!! 
The kids sitting in the front row are just looking at him uneasily, having a hard time concentrating on playing. The best part is, since he did it, then five others followed suit, including two little kids with camera phones. Oh, boy, a trend has started.......
Now, I've seem some stupid parent tricks throughout my teaching career, but this one made my jaw drop!
Oh yeah, then at the end of concert, another mother ran up as the curtain just closed, found the center break in the curtain, stuck her head in (mind you, then her ass was sticking out towards the audience, a fact I'm sure she didn't think about!), and started taking to her daughter. Sigh. It would be so much easier to teach kids good manners if it weren't for their parents.....

Also - your child is not perfect. She/he will lie to their teacher at some point. We know it, they know it, you might as well just accept it and start dealing with the problem.

That's insane! I was in band/symphony all through high school and our conductor would have stopped the show if a parent came up on stage. I guess for smaller kids they let it slide? If I were trying to take a normal picture (from my seat) while my child was playing, I would be seriously pi$$ed if someone got up there in the way, and I'd probably complain to the school for letting it happen.
So I guess that's the kind of crazy parent I'll be!
That man should have taken a picture of that woman's ass and posted it online. That might deter bad-parent behavior.

No words. Audience ettiquette (or shall I say lack thereof) has been in a sorry state and dwindling for years. Obviously if adults cannot practice good manners at a live performance, there is little hope that their offspring will be able to do so. It's sad. When I worked for the opera, we had to "brief" audiences (adults and always at the children's shows too) on proper ettiquette during the performance. We were educating them, but it was sad that it needed to be done (for the adults, I mean).
If it were my program, I'd arrange for a professional recording and photos that parents could purchase and not allow any photography or video otherwise. What a distraction for the poor students and also, the parents are SO focuses on capturing it on film that they miss the experience of enjoying their child's performance, in the moment.
