Domestic Goddesses - help!

So, I finally got around to scheduling Jenna's baptism (you know, before she's walking and talking).  Problem is, it is at 8 am.  I wanted to do the 10:30 service, but apparently they only do baptisms at the 8 am service  So, I'm supposed to have a little GTG back at the house after, right?

What do I make for people to eat at 9:30 am??  And how will I manage when I'll have to get up early for the baptism??  Right now, I'm just thinking I will go to Sams and buy whatever breakfast-y stuff they have - I'm at a loss!

Re: Domestic Goddesses - help!

  • I once went to a shower that was more breakfast/brunchy time than normal.  I remember she had all kinds of pastries out w/different spreads, plus she had little bagels out w/different kinds of cream cheese.  She had a table with fruit on it, like watermelon and strawberries.  You could make a really easy breakfast casserole and have it ready and just warm it up in the oven when people get there.
  • You could do a brunch, with things like this:

fresh fruit, mimosas, and pastry-like things. I think it would be lovely! I love brunches :)

PS- that first link is for "sleeping in omlette"... you put it together the night before, let it soak, and stick it in the oven right before you're ready to eat it. You could also do those dinner roll breakfast sandwich things, those don't take long to put together and you could also do that the night before.

  • You could make some kinda quiche beforehand... and have a variety of muffins, bagels, coffees, etc etc etc.
  • Thanks ladies!  In my freak out of "oh crap, I have to do breakfast food instead of lunch food"  I forgot about how many options I have!  I just had my mind set on lunch, and then got turned upside down (I blame it on lack of sleep/baby brain/flakiness)

    Keep those suggestions coming though!!!

  • I have muffin recipes in my blog!  Muffins freeze very well too, if you want to make them homemade and defrost.

I will try to get some more recipes for you tonight!!

  • Pick up phone, dial local bakery or Atlanta Bread Company, order a variety of pastries, bagels and muffins (don't forget the cream cheese!)

make a fruit salad the night before

set up the coffee maker to just be able to come home, push button

also have orange juice and water :)

  • I would offer ideas but everyone else did such a great job!!! Don't forget Panera Bread for bagels and great spreads :) I think it all sounds wonderful!

  • all of those ideas are making me hungry!

  • Funny you mentioned baptism!  We still haven't gotten Caleb baptised either and I meant to call the church today, but forgot (again).  Agh!  What is Jenna going to wear?  I mean, do they make baptism gowns big enough for our almost 6 month olds?  I'm thinking those are usually really tiny for newborns.  I've been stressing about this!

Anyway, I like the idea of different types of bagels (Bruggers has really yummy ones or Panera or Atlanta Bread) with different types of cream cheeses.  Muffins would be easy to make the day before.  Buy a fruit tray,  OJ and coffee and you should be good.  If you want to do a breakfast casserole I can give you a good recipe for one.

  • Some type of breakfast quiche. I have a breakfast casserole that is super easy and reheats wonderfully!! You can make it the night or day before and it is good the next day. If you want the recipe let me know.

  • Yeah... I have a recipe for a sausage/egg/cheese casserole that we always have for brunch. You make it at night so all you would have to do is stick it in the oven before you leave for church. Or, I've also got a cheese grits cassrole recipe that is very good and can bake while you are at church.

I also like the idea of pastries, fruits and bagels.

Instead of plain orange juice, what about an orange-juice based punch? Or, my MIL just uses half orange juice and half club soda. It gives the orange juice a little bubble and is so good.

  • Lisa,

remember some people may still go to sunday school (if you invite friends) or may not come to your house that early or right away.  If you wanted to give yourself more time you could make it for a little later, (a friend of mine did that) and then its more of a brunch open house type thing.

I think all the food suggestions are wonderful too.

I know it will be a wonderful, memorable day Smile

I think that is a wonderful idea. you could make it at 10:45 so people could go to sunday school and you would have a minute to defrag. Maybe sit out some coffee and pastries for the people who come on at 9:30 when you get out of church, but wait another hour or so to put out the hot stuff.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions ladies!  My sister makes some fabulous brunch dishes too - so I've gotten some recipes from her also.  But, the lazy part of me is still thinking store bought muffins, pastries, and fresh fruit....  I guess I'll wait until that weekend and make a decision from there!

Oh yeah, and the sunday school thing would be great, but none of the family goes to my church....  I'm sure it will work out one way or another...

    You girls rock : )
