My husband and I are looking to move off the small island that we live on now and are looking to move to a good size town or city that has lots of options from food, places to shop, gyms and what not. Possible looking in Victoria maybe Vancouver not sure. I want to get some ideas if anyone can help me. My husband and i are a young couple also looking to start a family so would love to be somewhere that is families.
Re: Come in all BC ladies
I love Victoria. I'd move there in a heartbeat if my husband could work there.
I used to live in Vancouver but I wouldn't recommend it. We moved away and we were back there the last two weekends in a row and I don't miss it at all. Too much traffic, too much pollution, too high housing costs.
I like Kelowna. We live in Kamloops and I don't mind it here. I like the city but I hate the dry, desert-like surroundings. I miss the rain of the coast because it makes everything green.
One thing I would definitely recommend is that you are probably going to want to buy a new house soon... So, I would go in and get preapproved or something to figure out how much you can realistically afford (likely not your preapproval amount) and then I would research places to live from there.
I live 4 hours-ish from the coast (a lot of people like it for that reason) and it is a lot more affordable than other places...
I hate the island - sorry, but every time I visit I feel trapped. Too small townish feel for me.
We live half an hour outside of Vancouver in Port Moody (near the Burnaby/Coquitlam border), great neighbourhood, still very affordable here (we own a 3 bed townhouse) and tons of young families.
I live in North Vancouver and I LOVE it. We have hiking and biking trails everwhere, beaches and ski mountains 15 minutes in either direction and only 20 minutes to the heart of downtown Vancouver.
There's tons of young families and lots of things to do with kids.
