What did you do with...

your wedding dress?

I looked at mine in my closet last night. I haven't even gotten it dry cleaned yet (oops!) I hate to part with it because I do love my dress, but then again it's pointless to just keep it. Also, if I keep it I have to get it preserved so it doesn't turn yellow. It just seems like too much work. So now I'm thinking it might just be easier to donate it or sell it. I figure it's about time to make a decision about it! :)

  • They turn yellow??  My Mom's from 29 years ago was never preserved and it's ok..  Eep!  I still need to clean mine.  I'm not going to have it preserved though, it's to damn pretty to be in a box for ever :)

  • I haven't cleaned mine either. I'm torn between donating it to Brides for Breast Cancer, doing a trash the dress session, or just keeping it for sentimental reasons.

As far as I know, they turn a dingy yellowish color sometimes if you don't preserve them correctly after a while.

  • Mine is in the guest room. It was on the floor where I took it off until about a month ago. I haven't cleaned it. I called around to dry cleaners and its $75 to just have it cleaned, not preserved as well. I was going to put it in one of those vacuum bags. I'm not really super sentimental about it, so I wouldn't mind donating it, but my mom would flip out, and since she paid for it, I'll keep it. For now its on a hanger in the closet.

  • I had mine cleaned and preserved with http://www.wedclean.com/.  It was about $100 I think for just the dress (might be extra with the veil and other stuff).

  • Mine is hanging in the nursery closet.  I had fully intended on donating it, but now that we're having a little girl I want to keep it around for her.  Not that I really think she'll want to wear it for her wedding, but she may enjoy playing dress up in it, and she may want to take pieces of it to use in her dress someday.  Even if I'd donated it I still planned on saving my veil and hand-made lace garter for her to use.

  • I had it cleaned by the lady who do my alterations and she boxed it up.  I thought about donating it but I want to keep it.

  • Mine's hanging in the bag in my parents' basement - in the same spot we put it the day after the wedding.  Stick out tongue  I'm not sure what I want to do with it.
  • Mine is still hanging in my closet.  I need to do the wed clean thing because I think I will keep mine.
  • Sold it. Kept the veil though, and someone has already borrowed it :)

  • It is still hanging in the guest bedroom closet at my parent's house where I put it after the wedding. I wanted to donate or sell mine but I ripped part of the overlay on wedding day and can't sell or donate it anymore. No plan on preserving it but maybe using parts of it in a "home from the hospital" outfit or christening gown for future babies. No real plan right now...we'll just see what happens.
  • Hanging in the guest room closet.  I can't even imagine parting with it.  I was planning on doing a trash the dress before I got pregnant.  Now my goal is to be able to do one after I have the baby at some point.  If I can fit into the dress.  :)

  • I tried selling my dress on craigslist, T2T board and a local wedding website with no luck. So I had it cleaned a preserved in Nov and now its sitting in my guest room closet. Its really a shame because its such a gorgeous dress that I would've loved for another bride to be able to enjoy. But I guess I'll just keep it. And really when I think about it, it would be difficult for me to part with it :)
  • Well, I know I feel better hearing what you all did/didn't do with yours.  Mine is in the bag on the floor in the corner of our bedroom.  It sits where it did when we brought it home.  I would like to do a TTD someday, so that's why I haven't preserved it.
  • I just sent mine out to get cleaned before Christams.  I used Affordable Preservation dot com or somthing very close to that.  It was really easy in that they sent me a box, I stuffed my dress, veil, and jacket in there, and sent it off, poastage already paid!

I had planned to do some type of trash the dress, but since I literally sweated through the entire dress I wanted to get it cleaned before it stained.

The dress does have a tendency to turn yellow especially if it isn't cleaned.  You don't necessarily have to preserve it, but getting it cleaned will prevent a good amount of potential staining.  Perserving it adds a bit more of extra insurance, although it seems if you have lace it has a very large chance of truning anyways.

  • Mine's hanging in the closet, and it's never been cleaned or preserved. Maybe I'll check out the Wed Clean thing once I get a job and am a few months into it. I would be nervous about them losing it though!
  • I planned on sitting around in it and have a beer with my friends in their dresses too, but my mom had it cleaned like the week after and preserved, so it's in a box in their garage rafters now, lol
