I know I haven't posted in forever, but I have a question for those of you that live in the Raleigh/Durham area...even west of there.
Hubby and I have been planning to go to the Carolina Hurricanes game for this Saturday for a month now. It just figures that there would be this "massive" winter storm coming ON THAT DAY.
We live in Charlotte, and DH and I are wondering whether or not to make the drive. We want to go to the game but we don't want to risk our lives getting there.
So my questions are,
1)how well do they keep I-85/40 from Charlotte to Raleigh clear in winter weather like this?
2)What are the forecasts saying now? I've heard of everything from an inch of snow from noaa.gov to 10" from some of the local Raleigh newsstation websites. Weather.com is just saying wintery mix. I don't know what to believe.
I guess one bright side is that we didn't pay a lot of money for these tickets. $10 each. If we had paid $80-100 for each ticket, then have them go to waste I would probably be livid.
Should we keep watching the weather forecast right up until Saturday morning then decide to go or not?
Thanks!
Re: Raleigh ladies - weekend weather question!
Hey, jeankitty meow meow! (I can't remember who called you that, but that's all I think of now.)
Have you posted this on the NC Babies board? There are a ton of Raleigh girls over there. You might get some answers from the. As I live on the coast, I have no clue.
If it definitely does snow you won't be able to go. They don't clear the roads well at all in this state, and the people who actually go out and drive in it don't know what they are doing. It's very dangerous, even a few inches.
From Charlotte- once you get on the interstate where ever you are- it is ALL interstate to the RBC center. I can't promise you how roads will be, but the wake county part of 40 already has the brine solution on it, and all the trucks are going to be ready to go to work. However, since NC doesn't get a lot of winter weather, there are not the resources to keep things cleared like other places, so who knows what it will be like.
I think it will be a wait and see sort of thing. I might be more concerned about getting home if you are going to be driving back at night after the game. If there was any melting but the roads were still wet, you might have a lot of slick spots as the temp goes way down and sun (if there is any) goes away.
