So I noticed in the veal post that many people said they didn't eat veal as it was a baby cow, and I know that there are some questions about the treatment of the cow, but I was wondering for those of you who don't eat it because it's inhumane/tortured (insert your reason here), are you also socially conscious of the other meats you eat? Like do you only eat free range chicken etc?
I'm not picking on anyone, just wanted to have a bit of a discussion about it.?
Re: s/o Eating Meat
I don't eat veal because I don't like the taste.
I'm not socially conscious when it comes to my food. Not sure if that's helpful to starting a discussion.
About a month ago I decided to only eat organic/free range meat. Eating local meat in my area also means eating animals that are humanely treated because there are no factory farms in this area.
DH moaned and groaned about my newest "Save the World" adventure. But it has been surprisingly easy. We have found a few abatoirs that we frequent and the meat is much better quality than the crap we bought before. It has also forced us to eat more vegetarian meals.
We eat local meat and starting to eat only organic as well. We do not buy any meat from the grocery store.
Joe ruined poultry for me on Thanksgiving (I will spare you the details) so now I am trying to find a certified organic, free range local farm.
I am also now looking into farmed vs wild fish.
This is a great resource to consider when deciding what type of fish to eat.

Also, for those of you that are eating local or organic, don't forget to encourage your local restauranteers to carry this type of fish/meat when you go out to eat. I've discussed it with chefs and a couple have tried to start carrying it more!

I struggle with the cost of the free range food and would love to be able to buy it, but it's just not always in the budget. There is only 1 butcher shop in Brampton (that I have found) and it's WAY over priced.?
Let me ask Joey if there is a good one that he recommends.
