Did I tell you I'm planning to do a triathlon in June?
I picked the event! Sprint Triathlon on June 19th
750 metre swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run
I have been training for swimming since October, and running on & off since last summer, I just started getting into biking.... I think it's do-able. Anyways my goal is to finish
I have a training partner at work and we carpool for swimming at lunch, my boss is going to do it too, so there will be 3 of us from my department competing!
Re: Did I tell you I'm planning to do a triathlon in June?
I honestly like the training so far... It is nice to have 3 events so it's not boring. I find running to be very boring so 5km is do-able (I could never run a marathon, I'd be so bored!) I will have to find a wet suit and a road bike so that could be interesting.
Typically I am not that motivated to improve from the status quo, seeing as I'm not really OUT of shape and my clothes fit. I trained a little bit for the astronaut thing, but as soon as I found out I was not making it, my dreams deflated quickly (about both career + fitness). I think this is just what I need for fitness goals!
I haven't read about a time limit, it's not like the Boston marathon...
I am thinking it will take me about 110 minutes plus transitions, maybe faster. Right now I'm estimating 20 min swim, 60 min bike, 30 minute run..... but hopefully I'll be faster than that
Cool - what a great goal and event to do!
You can totally do the 20k bike in less than 60min. I did a 40k bike-a-thon in Sept. biking around T.O including a few hills which took about 60min and I hadn't trained one bit! You'll do awesome.
I actually find training indoors on the treadmill more difficult than being outdoors! Probably because I'm used to running outdoors, and when I'm at the gym on the treadmill it's just so hard on my body because of the impact.
That's great! I have done 3 sprint tris (the swimming portion was usually a bit shorter since they were labelled adult try a tris). I would still be doing them but I can't do the swimming due to a bad neck.
I agrees about doing a biking to running transition. It feels SO weird to start running after that. What I found most difficult was the swimming to biking transition. I felt like I could not catch my breath and my legs felt like jello for maybe half the ride.
Good luck, it will be so fun!
Thanks! It's nice to hear from someone who has tried it. I will definitely try to get some swimming -> biking practice in, I will have to find a pool that has a rec centre too with stationary bikes (or try outside when it's warmer!)
