I just joined... does anyone else use this site?
I printed out the meal plan. Doesn't look so bad (some yummy stuff there), but it seems like the grocery list is a bit more expensive than I'm used to.
Re: SparkPeople
Unfortunately, eating healthy does tend to be a little (to a lot) more expensive--at least as first. But eventually you'll meal plan in a different way to maximize what you buy. I'm not a Sparksperson--I prefer to "support" Lance and Livestrong through dailyplate.com, but if you have any questions or need advice or even vent, let me know. Oh, and I wouldn't recommend trying to change everything all at once. Try to gradually make transitions to things they recommend--like don't just throw out any/all frozen dinners--if you've got a ton of them, just spread them out and eat them over a longer period of time. It will make the monetary impact appear much less.
We actually eat pretty healthy on a normal basis. I have issues with sodium intake (if I eat too much I feel like absolute asss for a loooooong time) and I'm somewhat grossed out by red meat, too much dairy and other animal products... so I actually have to plan out my meals to get a good dose of everything that I should be getting, otherwise I find I'm lacking in protein or iron. I'm a vegetable-aholic and I'll eat raw broccoli florets by themselves as a snack. Gross, right? :P I am having so much fun finding new recipes though!
I will check out dailyplate.com too... thanks, Derky!
I hope this isn't gross b/c the other day I was making a veggie platter, and I was downing the raw cauliflower like there was no tomorrow. I was never a big cauliflower fan, but just found that I actually really love it - cooked and raw
i use it on/off. i have never used their meal plans. it's useful to me to track %s of carbs/fats/proteins and a couple other choice vitamins/nutrients. i hand enter all of my recipes on sparkrecipes. IMO it's more realistic to do it that way; you won't always have someone telling you what you're supposed to eat for the day. it really, really helped me get a grasp on portion sizes and what components of recipes added up to.
also, SP tends to underestimate calories. it gives most people a range of 1200-1550, which is usually too little-just barely enough for most people's caloric needs. check out this calculator instead, then input that number into this.
