Cabs

I just realized that I have been taking or at least thinking about taking cabs much more since they all started accepting credit cards.  I never have cash on me, so I never used to take cabs. I have been really lazy lately and have gotten into the habit of taking cabs, especially since I no longer need a monthly metro card.

How about you? Since cabs started taking credit cards, have you noticed that you have been taking them more, less or the same?

Just curious?

Re: Cabs

  • other than coming home from jfk, i almost never take cabs. and the only reason we usually do take a cab from jfk is because it's a 15 minute trip and usually costs less than $20 (airtrain + subway for two = $15)

ditto. we rarely take cabs. Occasionally we'll use the car service guys within our neighborhood if its too cold or too hard for me to walk the distance. But that is super rare as well.

Also, I'm always afraid I'd get a cab and it would be a non-credit card accepting one. they are still around right?

  • I take them way more than I should.  I never leave the house on time in the morning so I when I get off the bus I usually end up taking a cab from the xbus to the office (it's really bad) from 23rd & 6th Ave to 27th btwn 10 & 11.

  • We only take cabs to and from the airport.  Otherwise, we take the more economical subway.  Also, many times subway is faster than cab!
  • I do take cabs if it qualifies for reimbursement from the company, but never charge with a card, even though it would be easier to get reimbursed. The corporate card is connected to our expense system.

I have an unsubstantiated nervousness about the machine being hacked to steal credit card #s or something.

There was an article that a perk for the cab drivers with CC machines is that they get more tip now. Some of the programs suggest a 15%, 20% and 25% percent tip and its touch screen, so people tend to tip more now.
