Re: CSA ladies
I am always tempted, but then I realize how often we are not home in the summertime and how much would go to waste.
Alot of the CSA farmers have tons of stuff at our farmer's market, so I just buy every week instead.

We renewed our membership. Last year was her 1st year and she's doubled the # of members. It's exciting to see her do so well.
Now that we've done it once we have a system down in terms of prepping everything when we pick up, choosing recipes,etc.
We're in the process right now of cleaning out a spot in the basement for an extra freezer which will help a lot

We're getting one down here from a MD farmer near DH's work. I am super excited. We wanted one the last two summers, but were moving in the middle of each summer, so that made it a no go. We're really excited to try the variety of fruits and veggies!

CSA is community supported agriculture, or a crop share.
You basically buy a share of food from a local farmer for the season and pick up your weekly produce at a farmers market or the like. You get great produce and they get monetary support.

Nothing too scientific, but we finally resigned ourselves to spending Thursday night (our pickup night) to cleaning veggies and menu planning- we take salads to lunch during the week, so anything that can go in a salad we clean, cut and store in tupperware in the fridge. For anything else we post a list on the fridge of what we have in there and we either use it in a recipe that week (and hopefully freeze some), make sure to throw it on the grill at some point (great for zuchhini and eggplant) or store it longer term if possible (potatoes, squash,etc.) We found that if we didn't do this, the fridge was so packed that we forgot what we had, and then ended up throwing out a lot of stuff.
We're hoping to get a spare freezer in the basement this year so that we can make some of our favorite recipes and freeze them for during the winter- especially soups.
