Poor Taste?

I go to bible study with a woman who is a consultant for a Candle Company (..the kind that has "candle parties," and stuff).  I have been invited to several of her parties, but haven't gone, basically because I didn't want to spend the money.

A good friend of my husband and me (-she was in our wedding-) is also a consultant for a different Candle Company.  I have gone to two or three of her parties because I feel the need to actively support her in her career.

The difference between these two women is that the woman I go to Bible study with is more of an acquaintance, and the other is a good friend.

If I wanted to host a Candle Party for my good friend, would it be in poor taste to invite the first woman, accounting for the fact that she works for a competitive company and I haven't actually been to one of her parties?  If I don't invite her, should I not invite anyone else from my bible study (so she doesn't hear about it)?

Re: Poor Taste?

  • I wouldn't invite the other candle lady... that just seems like a slap in the face IMO. So probably, to be diplomatic, I just wouldn't invite anyone from the bible study to avoid unnecessary drama. But I guess it depends on how close everyone from the bible study is.
  • I agree with dvshaw.  Definitely don't want to stir the pot with the church ladies.

    LOL, so true.

  • I agree with pp. I wouldn't invite that lady and unless there is a person in your Bible study that you are particularly close to, I wouldn't invite any of them.

    This :).

  • I wouldn't invite the church acquaintence either, but not because you didn't show up to her parties, because she sells the same kind of thing herself.  Why would she buy it from someone else?
