Cookware?

I really need some new cookware.  I've had to throw several of my nonstick pots and skillets away lately.  I'm thinking about getting stainless steel this time.  Which do you prefer to cook with?  Any recommendations?

Re: Cookware?

  • I have some Analon, some Emeril, some copper clad Revere pots and the southern must haves, some cast iron.  I've been pleased with all of it.

I would like to get a cast iron skillet.  I remember my grandmother seasoned her skillets when she first got them.  Do you know what you are supposed to do to season them and is that necessary?

yeah...i have a set that's still in the box because I don't know how to burn them...i guess i could just ask my grandmother

  • Hiya!  Yes....seasoning an iron skillet will keep it from rusting.  Here's a link on how to do it:

Also, I love non-stick Calphalon and Cuisinart cookware...they are both wonderful!

  • Season A Cast Iron Skillet

You can now find cast iron that's already seasoned. Check out QVC, Paula Deen has a line of it for sale there...far easier than seasoning it yourself but it's not that hard to season it.  Google seasoning cast iron cookware and you will find a ton of info...I copied one site above for you. I had a square cast iron skillet my mother bought for me when I was 18. She made a special trip with me downtown to a hardware store and got it for me...sort of a rite of passage...I recently gave it to Lauren knowing Mama would be happy knowing that skillet had been passed down to her only granddaughter. As a southern cook, some cast iron is a necessity for me. Yes

  • I have several cast iron pieces that I cook with.  Unlike my mom and grandmother.....I bought the ones that are pre~seasoned.  That way I could start cooking with them immediately.  I have been more than pleased with them :)

As for cookware......I have an extremely nice set of stainless steel.....that I never use!!  It is too much work to clean them up....and keep them looking nice.  I have a new set of the hard anodized cookware.....and it is wonderful!!!!!!!  By far the best thing I have ever cooked with....hands down.  Food never sticks...and the non-stick never comes off....and it is super easy to clean. I actually want another set for Christmas.  This time I want the Rachel Ray hard anondized....that has the neat orange handles!

  • We have All-clad stainless and I love it.  It takes getting used to if you normally use non-stick, but it's worth it!  I do use non-stick for some things, but stainless doesn't freak me out (chemical-wise) like non-stick does.  :)

  • I got the stainless set as a wedding gift.  I just have rarely used it to cook on.....and when I do it is kinda more of a hassle for me!  I see cooks on my fav food network shows using them all the time.....I guess I am just not as "experienced" with it :P

  • Here is a good post from yesterday.  There are some really good tips in it for stainless.
