POLL: Guy or girl masseuse

I badly need a sports massage since my harmstrings are really tight and it's giving me lower back pains :-(. This made me think whether I should get a guy or girl masseuse. Do you have a preference when you get your massages? DH does not like men masseuse. Whenever we get massages, he specifically tells me to make sure the masseuse is a woman Stick out tongue. I think I've only 2 massages in my lifetime that were done by men. One of them was the best massage that I've ever had - lomi lomi massage during our honeymoonBig Smile.[Poll]

Re: POLL: Guy or girl masseuse

  • i voted for guy masseuse just b/c I like a really deep tissue massage & it could be just a coincidence, but whenever I have had a girl she just didn't use enough pressure.  It could just be bad luck with the girls, but I have enjoyed the guys masseuses I have had better.

  • I voted for a girl because usually I just want a massage for relaxation - I'm not usually a fan of deep tissue (unless it's for an injury or something).

Or when I went for the abdominal work pre-pg.  Not sure a guy could have massaged my uterus very well - haha!

That said... the chiro I have been going to during pg is a guy and he is awesome.  It would have to be a pretty tough person (male or female) to stretch me out like he can in the hamstrings, glutes, and hips.

  • I've had both and I like both.  Though, I do like lots of firm pressure, and the woman I go to is Nadya, who is over 6 feet tall and at least 275.  I might not like a little petite woman as much, worrying that she might not give me the pressure I want.  I know that it's such a stereotype, but I might be concerned if I walked in and a tiny little thing was going to massage me!

  • I voted for female but that is because like MauiWedding, I like massages for relaxation -- I'm not really a fan of the deep tissue as it ends up being more painful for me then anything. I know MH is prob also happy that I use women, haha!

  • no preference-just someone who is really good-i can always ask to adjust the pressure-i have had female masseuses who are amazing with super strong hands and guys with weaker hands-you never know
  • i've had one male in the past but i always prefer females. it just makes me more comfortable so i can focus on relaxing. i know they are totally professional and all but still...having a female makes me feel better. kind of like how i prefer a female ob/gyn too.
  • I never actually request for male masseuses but the 2 best massages I ever got were from guys.  3rd best was from a girl.  When I call in to make an appt I always request for someone with a really firm touch.  (I need someone to work out all the knots!)  Like Erica's hubby, MH has to have a female masseuse.  He said it feels too weird to have a male masseuse.
  • I will always ask for a female from now on because about a month and a half ago I got a prenatal massage and it was a male and his hands were ROUGH!  And I mean he had calluses that were scratching me and it was awful!  Totally not relaxing...worst massage ever.

I prefer lots of pressure too but just ask the women to do so and they happily oblige :)

  • I couldn't really vote because it depends on what kind of massage I'm getting. For any massages covering/involving anywhere from my torso to thighs, I prefer women, for the same reasons as Jaime's. But for head, feet, arms, lower legs, I don't care and have gotten men before. I've also had a male masseuse for a full body massage once and I just didn't feel as relaxed. I also prefer not too much pressure and no deep-tissue (too sore the day after!) so strength isn't an issue for me at all.

  • I voted guy just because my experience has been that men can get enough leverage to add the pressure I like (deep tissue).  That said, women can do it too...you just need to be sure they do deep tissue/sports massage.  My mom is a certified Rolfer and her massages are the deepest I've ever experienced, so it is possible!
