Can anyone tell me about Pigeon Forge, TN?

I have never been, so I know nothing of the area, although I have heard it's very nice. My dh will be working directly in Pigeon Forge, but I have been unable to find anything on rent.com or any other websites for apartments/condos, etc. What communities are good to live in (apartment or condo living), what is there to do for a toddler, are there any parks/beaches, etc.?

We may be temporarilly re-locating to that area in the spring and I'm trying to find out as much about the place as I can.

TIA

  • I wish I could help you. I didn't know anyone lived in Pigeon Forge! It is a MAJOR tourist destination and many people go there for vacations. There are plenty of pancake places, souvenir shops, and mini golf courses. That is where Dollywood is and Dolly's splash country which would be fun for a toddler I would think. Boyd's Bears is also there, and of course you are very close to Gatlinburg. My inlaws have a condo on Douglas Lake at Harbor Crest which is about 20 miles from Pigeon Forge. It is not rentals though. Good luck!

  • I too agree, that it is really touristy. I only have known two people to live up there and I have no ideas about the areas. My parents also used to live off of Douglas Lake in Dandridge. Goodluck!!!
    I heart Ben!!

  • Hi I'm Mandi! I live about 45 mins form there...my family and I used to go up there all the time when I was younger. I also have some friends that live in that area. I would suggest looking for a house or apartment in the Seiverville area...its actually the county that Pigeon Forge is in. The area just outside Pigeon Forge is really nice and community friendly. There is alot of stuff to do up there too...Dollywood is amazing and for all ages! I hope I was able to help you out a little. Smile
  • I'm not a fan of the house selection in Pigeon Forge. I've lived in Sevierville all my life. Except for one short year when I moved to Knoxville(for college). My husband and I found out I was pregnant and quickly moved back. Knoxville was more of a party thing for me...not where I wanted to be forever. Not that it's bad, I just always wanted to raise my family in Sevierville. There are a lot of nice apartment complexes here at reasonable price. They really don't have websites but I could give you numbers if you'd like.
There are a lot of things to do this way. We like to go walking in Gatlinburg with the shops, go to Dollywood, and of course all the attractions in Pigeon Forge. Knoxville isn't that far either. Sevierville has a nice city park with a playground, pool with water slides, and sports fields. No beaches, but you could always make a weekend trip and hit up SC.
