Pizza

What is a good brand of refrigerated/frozen pizza (big ones) ? Ive been getting the Target brand (Archdale farms or whatever) for a while, you get a huge pizza for like $8 but lately I'm finding them to be overly greasy... any suggestions? DiGiorno? The local pizza place we used to order from has gone down in quality so we kinda like cooking one at home now.

Re: Pizza

  • Hey there.  Some time we will order out, but nowhere here truly strikes my fancy, so I make our own!

     What you need...

    A Bar Pan

    Pillsbury pizza dough

    Your favorite Jar Sauce

Either the pizza blend cheese or mozzarella and cheddar.

And whatever you want to top it with!

    Here is the trick...

I preheat the oven to whatever the dough package says

Roll out the dough on your pan, rub it down with some olive oil, we love garlic so I also put fresh crushed garlic, and sprinkle Italian seasoning poke holes in the dough with a fork and bake it topping free for to mins!  This gives you a really crispy crust.

Then top it how you want and cook it till the cheese is melted!

    Good luck!

  • I am a nerd and make my own pizza from scratch (dough and all) usually - but I think the California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizzas are usually pretty good.

     Yum, this sounds great! Thanks!

  • Hi lady!

I'm with krispy, and we make our own, but in a pinch, the Palermo's brand is really good.  If you can find the Buffalo Chicken version, buy it!  It's delish & I haven't found it in awhile!

  • I have no idea but I just wanted to tell you how much I LOVE your dress. That is all..carry on. ;)

  • We had a Diginorio (that was a guess) last night and it was really good. It was the garlic bread pizza, it was square. It was really good until I looked at the calories and almost pissed my pants.

  • I go back & forth between DiGiorno & Freschetta depending on which one is cheaper that week. I should start making our own pizzas. I'm sure it'd be slightly healthier than getting the premade ones. Stick out tongue
  • We've been getting the Trader Joe's pizza doughs (for 99 cents). We split each one in half so that we can each make our own "individual" pizza. This is probably cheaper than using a frozen pizza since you can get little cans of pizza sauce for less than a dollar (we usually add Italian seasoning, roasted red pepper flakes, and garlic salt), and a bag of grated cheese makes several "individual" pizzas for us.
  • I haven't found a frozen pizza I particularly like, they all taste the same to me. We used to buy DiGorno but lately we've been buying the Lowes food brand and it's alright. If I have the time, I also prefer to make my own pizza. Trader Joe's sells crusts for 99 cents or I use the roll out pillsbury crusts. Except I don't really like making traditional pizzas b/c they aren't as good as takeout, so I'll usually make buffalo chicken pizza or chicken cesar salad pizza.

Buffalo chicken pizza - I bake the crust for a few minutes like pp mentioned, then spread ranch on crust. Coat some cubed, cooked chicken w/ a hot sauce/melted butter mixture and put that on top of the ranch. Then top with mozzerella.

Chicken cesar salad pizza- chop up some garlic and rub/press into the crust. Bake for a few minutes, then spread cesar salad dressing. Sprinkle mozzerella & parm, then spread cubed, cooked chicken, then top with a little more mozzerella & parm. While it's cooking, mix romaine, chopped tomatoes, and green onions with cesar dressing. Once the pizza is done, remove from oven and top w/ salad mixture.

  • The DiGiorno pizza that is the Tuscan style (chicken & spinach) is really good, and it is not as bad for you as some of the other ones out there.

    Haha, aww, thanks!!

  • I went over to Super Target over lunch and got the ingredients to make our own pizza, cant wait!! Smile
  • Maybe it's the NYer in me, but I don't believe there is a frozen pizza out there that is "good."  Edible, maybe but actually "good"?  I don't believe it.  Wink

I'll usually buy a dough ball from one of the places around here--usually we go to Pie Works since it's convenient--and just make our own.  My favorites usually include bbq chicken and chicken and broccoli pizza, or just a traditional cheese pie with fresh mozzarella.  Thankfully I have figured out how to "throw" a ball of yeasty-dough so that we can make a round pie these days.  Before it was just a stretched blob--it does take time and practice, so don't get discouraged.  I always tease DH about the fact that he absolutely fails at it every single time.  Devil

  • I second Palermo's. They're pretty darn tasty. I try to grab them when they're 2/$10 or bogo at Harris Teeter.

We also like Home Run Inn pizzas for a change. They've got this weird thin but super-dense crust. It's the cheese that makes those so good.

    How much does this cost?

We used to get a frozen pizza at Costco that we really liked. I do not remember what brand it was but it had spinach on it. I have not seen it for a long time though and I have never seen it in regular store.

We do sometimes get Costco take and bake pizza and it is pretty good.

  • We buy the Barillo (sp??) pizza crusts and then put our toppings on it, YUM! But I got coupons for the pillsbury crusts and tried them, they are pretty good too.... we never buy the premade stuff.... if you want AMAZING pizza tho- try Rossini's- it's in the Lowes food shopping center at Poplar Tent.... SOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOD!
  • I can't stand frozen pizza- mainly because good frozen pizza is expensive for $8 i'd rather order papa johns which is 10X better- you can order a large pizza with any toppings for $10

if I want to make it at home i buy dough at trader joes and add my own toppings

favorites are pesto and brushetta with cheese- yum!

  • Palermo's Hearth Italia (we like the one with pesto and mozzarella balls or chicken, pesto and tomatoes) are pretty good for frozen.  The Trader Joe's wood fired cheese pizza is also good.  All of these options are pretty decent health wise.  I won't buy the vast majority of frozen pizzas due to their nutritional content.  Like many other posters, we generally make our own with TJ's crust but will use a frozen in a pinch when we are super tired from work.
