We really should replace about 10 of the windows on our house. Has anyone had this done recently and what was the approximate cost/window? Any Syracuse ladies have any recommendations on companies? TIA!
Re: Replacement windows
Hi! We did half of our house late last Spring. We bought Pella windows through Lowes, energy star so we get the tax rebate.
The cost was anywhere from 275$-400$ per window depending on the size of the window we were replacing. We went with the nicest windows we could buy because our windows were original to the house (50+years!) and we really wanted the energy star rebate.
Now, for our windows we did the labor/installation ourselves. We're big on saving $$ because labor per window would have added another 200$ to each window. Crazy, because ours were not that difficult to replace and we are by no means experts in home improvement!!
It's crazy how the rooms in our house with the new windows are warmer and completely draft free. We're planning on completing the other half this spring.
I would highly recommend Lowes and Pella windows. I would also check out doing the labor yourselves, you'll save a ton of $$.
Good Luck!!
Hi V!
Just like the pp, last year my DH and I installed 28 Pella, Energy Star replacement windows but, we went through a company in Ontario. You can purchase the same kinds of windows for roughly the same price at Lowes/Home Depot. The windows are very easy to replace. But, if you feel that you need to hire someone, cheaper then what Lowes/Home Depot will charge, I can talk to my dh. Just IM me.

Just an FYI- If you want the energy tax credit, not just any energy star window will do. There are specific guidelines. (google it for specifics as I dont have the link handy).
We just had all ours replaced last year and the regular double hung were $250 installed no matter what the size was. They are energy star too but I am not sure if they qualify for the credit now(we had them done before June, the cut off for all energy star windows so we do get the credit) We used Savage and Sons, they are in Rochester but they may go to Syracuse?
Good luck!
