? if you sit at a desk most of the day
how do you make your desk a little more comfortable? my neck and back are really sore lately and it's probably from work.
does anyone have a footrest below their desk? i wonder if something like that would help. i like sitting up a little higher but my feet barely tough the ground that way.
Re: ? if you sit at a desk most of the day
I sit at a desk all day and lately my neck/shoulders have been really sore.
I recently started sitting on an exercise ball... it forces me to have good posture. I'm not sure if your company has a policy on those in the office, or if you'd feel weird sitting on one (like Dwight from The Office LOL) in front of everyone, but it's helped my neck and shoulders a lot.
Foot rests wouldn't work for me because for some reason, I can't stand having my feet dangle when I'm in a chair and, even when I'm in a restaurant, I will lift my legs to sit Indian style
. That's another reason why I started sitting on the ball.
If you don't want the exercise ball, they have these backings for your chair that lengthen and keep your spine straight. I had one in my car... they're actually really nice. It's like being in a constant stretch
.
Unfortunately my biggest issue is looking down at a laptop but its attached to a base wired into the desk so I can't raise it. I have my chair really low to help counter balance.
I have a catlitter bucket under my desk as a foot prop and a small humidifier on my desk to help me breathe.
I got a back massage pillow thingie for my chair for christmas that i need to bring in.
I just recently started a new job where I've gone from being on my feet all day to sitting at a desk all day. You can get lumbar support inserts for your chair that help with your posture. I think the biggest advice I can give is to make sure your keyboard, monitor and chair all line up to where you don't have to twist or contort yourself into any uncomfortable positions. I am working on a different computer temporarily while mine is being shipped, and it is set up to be off to the corner of the desk and is not lined up with the chair hole. That is killing my back.
Also pay attention to what position you get into when you're really concentrating. I tend to lean forward which is bad. I'm sure I'll have more advice once I get my actual desk set up. Good luck.
