BR- Happiest Baby on the Block...
Have any of you moms watched the dvd (or read the book)? Do the 5 S's really work like that? It can't work that well in real life could it? Does it work for you? My DH & I watched that dvd last night are were just amazed (of course we watched 'Your Baby Can Read!' infomercial once and were amazed by that too, lol).
Are there other great tips like that in the book?
Re: BR- Happiest Baby on the Block...
I read the book and then we bought the DVD. I prefer the DVD because I feel the book takes a long time to communicate the same stuff that the DVD actually demonstrates. I don't feel the book has any additional tips, it's just a wordy way to explain the same thing as the DVD.
My suggestion is to skip the book.
And yes, the 5 S's really worked for us (from day 1). I always want to mention that we had an extremely easy baby though so maybe we are not greatest example of a fussy baby that is quiet after the 5 S's. We just started doing the 5 S's right away and then we eventually would take an "S" away (or really the baby would decide that he didn't want it...like he spit out the pacifer at 3 months and busted out of the swaddle around the same time so those went away).
I have the DVD...Ashton was not really that much of a colicky baby (he did cry though but not for hours on end like some)but the swaddle and shhh really does work. I think it really works though.
As for "Your Baby Can Read," I've heard mixed reviews. Some say it works while others say that all babies end up with the same vocab by a certain age anyway so it's a waste of $$?
Brooke was not a real fussy baby, so it's hard to say for us... but we used the swaddle for about a month or two ... and we also used the shhhh occasionally. DH used to use the side to side shaking thing, but that too, was occasional.
I think they give great tips though.

I never read the book, but I tried the 5s and they worked for me. Marino had colic and that was the only thing that would calm him down (after a couple hours anyway...he screamed from 5-9pm every night for 3 months straight).
EXACTLY!
We tried these in the very beginning and they worked great but Alexa is a very easy and predictable baby so we didn't need them after a couple months,
