And now: one of the best decisions...

...you've made in your life.  Besides marrying DH or course ;)

Re: And now: one of the best decisions...

  • Living completely on my own in Chicago for a year and half even though DH and I were previously living together for 3 years (he moved back in with his parents.)  I am so happy I was able to experience that!   This time allowed me to really "find myself."

  • Honestly? Having a DW Big Smile Everyday I look at the poster we have on the wall of 3 of our wedding pictures and I think about how amazing that whole week was. I loved everything about it!

Besides that....not getting another roommate after our last one moved out. I absolutely love having just DH and I (w/ our zoo) in the house. I hated hated hated having other people in the house, that's probably due to the fact that when we did have roommates they did absolutely nothing around the house and I had to clean up after them constantly. I don't even like cleaning up after DH and I!

  • Going to The University of Iowa. That place really helped me define who I am. I just love, love, loved it!

  • kinda a long random stream of events( to which I will spare you all) but I feel like they all lead me to meet DH. It all started w/ the decision of not moving in w/ a friend in Long Beach when I graduated and was thinking about working on a masters 4 yrs ago.

...and buying those pink prada flats that I thought I would never wear, They're all I can fit into these days. I have very few shoe options at the moment.

  • Breaking up with the obnoxious @ss that I was dating before I met DH. I've never been happier in my life after him. :)

  • Getting a divorce.  It completely changed how I feel about myself.

  • Moving across the country all by myself and then moving back when my son was born.  I needed to get away from my family and learn how to take care of myself.  It was so scary and everyone thought I had lost my mind, (I moved from Wyoming to Atlanta, Georgia) but I loved every second of it... even the hard times.  I am so glad that I went back when I was 8 months pregnant with Rowen.  I needed my family then and it was nice to get to know all of them differently than just my family.  I'm much closer to them all and my son is over the moon for them all.  Now that I'm away from them again I miss them like crazy and can't wait until we can all be close together again.

This. And buying a house where I did. If I had bought where I wanted to, probably be upside down now. Also, although it's not ideal, living in Baltimore has made me more aware of a lot of things I was naive about.
  • Going againt the norm and actually buying something off an infomercial that completely changed my life.  I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't gotten that anxiety program...even though it costed us 10 times more money than we had to spend, it gave me my life back.
  • Going straight from HS to college to grad school and not allowing myself to stop until I had my PhD. Sometimes I look back at what I did and wonder how the heck I was motivated to do it!!

  • Going to teach in Costa Rica after college! It was quite life changing, and an experience I'll always remember :)
  • moving to LA a month after i graduated from high school.  even though i did not go to a four year college, i enjoyed ever moment of living in LA on my own.

  • Leaving NYC for San Diego.  I had so much going on in NYC and nothing in San Diego- no family, no friends, no job, no place to live.  But anyone who knows my situation in NYC knows I HAD to leave sooner or later and doing it sooner made it a lot less painful.  And I scored big in San Diego!  A great job, a great husband, a condo I hate but it's still huge and a roof over my head, and many, many, many great friends!  Also health and happiness and 72 degree weather year round.  :)
  • Giving DH a second chance when we were dating.  I think we both learned during our "break" just how much we missed eachother and IMO it made him a better partner.
