"pinup" pics- inspiration

Hi everyone

I am having some fun, pinup-style photos taken to make into a book for my husband for our anniversary, wondering if anyone on here has done this type of photo shoot before, or the "boudior" type photos? and could share some for inspiration?  Thanks!

Re: "pinup" pics- inspiration

  • I've thought about doing this for my husband as well. Do you recommend any photographers? Sorry I'm not able to give you any advice...
  • I have done it.  It is fun and empowering.  Do a google search on boudoir  photos and pin up photos.

check out this website for some great ideas:

one big key is to flirt with the camera with your eyes and have fun!

  • Check out some of Gil Elvgren's work, it's classic.
  • What about the classic Vargas girls (the old Esquire shoots) or a 1940's inspired pin up girl look?
  • I've done this and it is sooo much fun! I did the old school army pinup girl kinda thing it really is a blast!

Just pick out some poses you like and as silly as it sounds practice your face in front of the mirror so you know what's comfortable and what isn't

  • I have. I used to do pin-up modeling. I don't have any of my pictures available for viewing (I don't have a scanner). It was a lot of fun, but a bit nerve wracking. I recommend feeling comfortable with your photographer, and he or she should have no problem if you were to bring along a friend (not more than one, it gets crowded) for moral support and comfort. Also, to cut the edge off my nerves I would always take a shot of Sailor Jerry. I don't normally drink, but I feel that particular type of wiskey is 40's esq. and some big band music always helps to set the mood.

The main thing is to just have fun. Things can always be edited and touched up later. Also, some of the most uncomfortable positions look the best. The saying beauty is pain is very true in modeling.

    Your husband will love it!

  • I did B pics for H for Christmas.  I had such a great time.  I just did google and flickr searches for poses.  I posted a few pictures on my blog - you know, those are don't show anything. Wink  http://mylifewithtwodogsandahusband.blogspot.com/2010/01/ooh-la-la.html

?This. Definitely find some pictures online that you like or would like to copy and practice. I would also bring those pictures in with you so photographer has an idea of what you want. Your photographer should help guide you with what you need to do, like turning your head more to one side, or shoulders, etc. Also slink. Its generally done in a standing position, you stick your hips out and allow your shoulders to be back so that the light catches your whole body and doesn't create shadows. You just have to make sure your chin isn't too high up.?

  • i have done this before, a few times. just make sure you're comfortable with the photographer. i do photography myself, and have worked with the photographer that took my pictures, so there wasn't any awkwardness. just make sure you tell the photographer what you don't want. also, make sure the photographer won't publish your photos anywhere (facebook, blogs, etc) without your permission!
  • I did a boudoir session as an 'engagement' gift. I got the ring, he got a 'little black book' of me ;)

It was a blast. Take things you're comfortable in (relatively haha) and have fun with it! I know my back was very sore after from all the posing, but the shots turned out fantastic.

  • I was thinking I would do it for my DH 30th birthday. My DH and I have only been married for 6 months, and to celebrate his birthday were going on a cruise! I want to give him something personal, and thought that he would really enjoyed some photo's. I am also in need of more info.

Do you print the photo's yourself? Do you make your own book by uploading pics online and then picking up the book in the store? I am a little nervous about the person in the photo lab who develops them :S I know it sounds silly, becuase I am sure they have seen it ALL... but the thought has crossed my mind

I had a disc from the photographer with all the pics. I uploaded them onto shutterfly and made an album for him.

I made my book using blurb.com. We decided to blow two of them up to hang in the bedroom.  I had these printed at Wolf Camera and mailed to me.
