Oh ya painting my kitchen

So when we moved in we renovated the kitchen and I had to pick the paint colour on the fly.  I wanted to wait for the cabinets to be up because they have a bit of an orange undertone.  Well DH and mom were the ones painting the kitchen, they handed me a swatch book and said "pick a yellow"

"I don't want a yellow kitchen.  My cabinets are going to look really odd against yellow."

"pick a yellow.  We have decided it will make the kitchen look really warm."

well as I was already feeling harassed  about all of the other decisions I was making I pointed at the one I thought would be the least offensive, they ignored it and went darker.  Well I have never liked my yellow kitchen.  I wanted the bead board painted, I wanted to take my time and find a colour I liked.  Today I am painting my kitchen blue, I am painting the bead board a warm white.  I am super excited.  I am a little nervous about the white I have chosen.  It's got a teeeny tiny hint of peach to it so that it's warm.  I just hope it doesn't come out too pink.

Re: Oh ya painting my kitchen

  • Speaking from experience, yellows are very hard to pick. I went through 4 of them to fnd the right colour for my old place. I'm glad you're getting what you want now. Blue and white sounds great for a kitchen. I wouldn't worry about the white looking pinky, I bet being up against the blue will make it look nice and crisp. Good luck!
  • how exciting, take before and after pics!!
  • I am more than half way finished.  The rest is getting done next weekend.  We realized that while it was possible to paint the area that was going to get the new furniture and what not,  we had nowhere to put all the stuff in the other half of the kitchen. WHoops
