are you a teacher and work was canceled?
are you seriously not comfortable driving in at your normal hour because of the ice/road conditions? what time will you go?
are you using this as a nice excuse for taking a day off?
Re: who's going to work?!
I teach. School is closed for students and staff.
Jenna do you have a number for your central office or principal? I'd call and make sure you aren't supposed to go in for a workday. Usually snowdays are workdays for us and we have to use comp time or annual leave if we don't go in.
NCSU has cancelled classes until noon tomorrow and only essential staff have to come in. DH isn't planning on going in, but I probably will (dorky grad student).
Working from home. Even if we don't go in, we just take work and computers home if it looks like we'll have bad weather so it's not really time off. I know a few people that I'm sure will go in even though a few of the courthouses are closed.
They sent an email basically telling us to stay home. They said we can make up the time in chunks if we don't have annual leave yet. Which is fine because I was there on Friday for 4 hours without getting paid. Technically I'm still on sub pay so I may not have to make it up. That's so weird...where I'm from when school is closed, it's closed. It's a paid day off for the teachers. It makes you not want to have snow days here.
I've been at work since 6am. We're on a liberal leave policy today (you can flex your time or take vacation if you like). I'll be damned if I'm wasting a vacation day in the middle of the winter because the roads are crappy. It took me an extra 10-12 minutes to get here. The roads are still half ice, but as long as you stay at a smart speed & keep your distance from other cars, it's not too bad to drive out there.
I'm a teacher too and they told us to stay home today too- but we have to make up a teacher work day on Saturday
. Where I'm from they just build snow days into the schedule so you never make them up also. It is kind of bittersweet to get a snow day here-but I'm going to enjoy the day off! I hear we may have one tomorrow too because of the freezing rain predicted tonight.
Now that sounds like a good day off to me!!
We had work as usual, though our phone has only rung a handful of times. It took me an extra 15 minutes or so since our neighborhood (and my road) still hasn't seen a plow. What did the DOT do all weekend??
My work is open but I'm not going in. Our road never gets plowed, so we can't get out. Then the road we turn onto (which I have to drive about 6 miles on to get to the main road) is bad, too. I'm not even sure if I can go tomorrow...
We had a two hour delay for work. (No I'm not a teacher). My DH took a paid vacay day so I could take the SUV as my sports car wouldn't even make it up the hill of my driveway and I do not have paid days off and make more money now.
I don't know how I'm going to do tomorrow though as he will HAVE to go back to work and the backroads we live on are still really bad. (they never scrape them). I only hope today it gets warm enough to really clear some of these roads better.
I'm at work, DH dropped me off b/c he has 4 wheel drive & my car wouldn't have made it out of the neighborhood.
My coworker & I just got our executive director to run us by home so we could let our doggies out!
