Sometimes I feel like I am in the twilight zone

Okay so I will ask my question here because the other answers are a little strange.

Would Iran be easier to defeat than Iraq?  What things are at play in that country that would make it more or less difficult?

Admittedly I don't know much about Iran.  For example, I am wondering if there is a history of ongoing civil war in the country similar to Iraq that could be at play if we go to war with them?

Re: Sometimes I feel like I am in the twilight zone

  • I think that if you're asking if they are easier to defeat, you are asking the wrong question.  The first question should be "is there a NEED to defeat them, and if so, what are we defeating them for?"

My extent of knowledge about Iran is that while trying to supply Hussein with weapons to combat Iran (and the "communist threat"), we were unable to defeat them.  I'm not sure that 20 years later, anything notable has happened that would change that outcome.

  • Persians definitely hate Ahmedinejad (was reading something recently about their upcoming elections in 2009 or 2010, can't remember and the general dissatisfaction with his leadership and the direction he's taken the economy and national reputation).

But that doesn't mean your average Iranian would be happy with the USA showing up and overthrowing him. I think they'd prefer to do it democratically on their own (which at this point appears to be likely to happen in less than 24 months).

Someone tell me to stop posting here. I have too much work to do!!!

  • I know this doesn't answer your question, but I read a book about Iran that I thought was really good recently.
