Really? No PB?

So I ate an egg over-medium today and had a pb&j sandwich for lunch and now I'm reading I'm not supposed to have either?  Is it OK if I eat both in moderation?

Re: Really? No PB?

  • I think it is ok in moderation... I read someplace to avoid tons of peanut butter if you have a family history of food allergies.  We don't so I have been eating peanut butter and eggs like I normally do.  The one thing I do miss eating all the time is my tuna and crackers!
  • I have a dairy allergy but no nut allergies in my family.  Whew.  I'll just make sure not to eat them every day.  ;)  Tuna's OK a couple of times a week, right?

  • we have no history of food allergies in our family and i ate peanut butter quite often.  i think tuna is closer to a 'once a week' thing.
  • If eating PB&J and eggs during pregnancy is bad, then I was a very bad mommy-to-be.  Seriously, in the first trimester I had sooo many PB&J sandwiches--it was a major craving of mine, I was always hungry (it was the one thing that could satisfy my appetite) and it didn't make me nauseous.  I also continued to have my (almost) daily hard boiled egg white for breakfast.  Oops!  Embarrassed

ETA:  Yup, tuna is something you'll want to eat in moderation.  My doctor definitely had this on her list of "foods to limit."  She never said anything about peanut butter or eggs, though.

  • Actually, I'm glad you posted this here.

I had no idea we weren't suppose to be eating PB. It's a staple on the weekends and I love my PB and banana sandwich after a run (it's what I crave).

  • I would talk to your ob about it. A lot of stuff you find online can be a bit over the top. I had lots of PB, and eggs, and shrimp, and cold lunch meat.

  • Wow...I had no idea that you weren't supposed to eat peanut butter when you're pregnant.  But then I ate a whole lot of stuff that was on the "do not eat" list. (i.e. sushi, peanut butter, all kinds of fish, a glass of wine now and then, lunch meat).

Personally, I think the only things during pregnancy that should be avoided like the plague are hard alcohol, illegal drugs, and cigarettes.

  • Wait....no Alchol??? Dammit!

Just kidding Stick out tongue. but good lord I want a mexican martini.

  • last i checked, PB was not even under debate as a safe pg food.  I'd check your source.  PB is fine, eggs are fine, tuna once a week.

OK - whew.  It's one of the few foods that is appetizing right now and I can't imagine not eating it!

  • Wait...why are you not supposed to eat PB?  I've never heard of that restriction during PG.  Ooopppsss
  • I thought it was over easy type eggs you're suppose to stay away? I've had my fair share of pb, lunch meat, a couple of bites of cevchie - it was too good to turn down. :o)
