i hate my cell phone. i have the LG envy touch and it is a pile of junk. i hate it and i cant type on it anymore because the touch screen is shot because i send too many texts. i've only had it since july, so we arent up for a contract renewal. but im thinking about buying a phone off of ebay that doesnt have a contract associated with it.
i considered getting a BB when i switched to verizon, but i dont ever use it for email and internet so i didnt want to pay the monthly data fee.
if i buy a used BB, do you think i could get around that or would i need to actually activate the phone through verizon and therefore have to get the data package.
this is the first i've ever had verizon. with at&t when i bought a new phone, all i had to do was switch my SIM card to the new phone and it was immediately activated. but i dont think i have a SIM card in my verizon phone, do i?
if you have verizon what phone make and model do you have?
do you love it or hate it and why?
what do you primarily use it for (email, calls, text, etc)?
Re: questions for verizon wireless users
If you buy a phone with a data feature, you're required to get a data plan. Period. (Sorry!)
So even if you buy a used BB off ebay, when you go to activate it, they'll want you to add a data plan (as far as I know). You will need to activate the phone with Verizon, or your info won't be on it, and it won't have an account linked to it.
With verizon, if you register on their website for an account, you can check your minutes, pay your bill, etc. But there is also a free service, called Back Up Assistant, that will back up all your phone numbers. There are also instructions for transferring those numbers from phone to phone when you upgrade/change phones.
I have verizon and I have the droid eris -- but it's a data phone, so if you dont want internet/email, i wouldn't recommend it to ya....
I love it, except that having all that internet power drains my battery a lot faster than my old phone. But you just get used to it.
I use my phone primarily to check my email. My workplace blocks most things. I use it for email, texting, facebook, internet, and phone calls. Honestly, probably in that order. (I hate talking on the phone)
We have had Verizon since 2003 and we love it.. never had any trouble. The past few times, we've done everything online rather than going into the store. We've always had a Samsung flip phone and have always had a lot of luck with the Samsung phones. We are due for new phones - have had these 2 years, so I was thinking the same thing that we are due for something new but dont know what to get because we dont use the internet on our phones.. and DH doesnt text/pix msg, and I do.. so I hate to have to upgrade our current plan just to get a phone, we'll see.. have to soon do some digging on that and find new phones.
I have a BB and love it. Like pp I'm sure she would agree that once you get a data phone you will never want to go back to a regular phone.. They are so convenient and I love when we travel I can use the internet on there and not have to worry about lugging my laptop with me.
Signing up for verizonwireless.com is a great feature since it will backup your numbers for as often as you want and is a great feature if you lose your phone or it breaks or something.
Good luck with your choice!
I have the newest version of the BB Curve (just came out at the end of Nov. - it's purple; can't think of the #s off the top of my head) and LOVE it. I've always had non-data phones up until this one, and I'm addicted to it now.
I use it primarily for email/text, but lately I've been getting the hang of using it for internet, too (which is wonderful when I'm stuck in the usual Bmore traffic...).
Just as a heads up, the great majority of Verizon's phones on the market currently fall under the category of data phones in some way, shape, or form, and they are now requiring that ANY data-capable phone activated also carry a data plan - DH and my mom both got the EnV Touch in Nov. and were required to pick up the basic data plan ($10/month). Another girl on the F&B board was just checking into this and said when she called Verizon, they said it's now mandatory with any data-enabled phone they activate.
... every single day of forever.
