So.... Bobo doesn't like the Popo

We came back from south Texas this morning and instead of going our usual route, decided to head north first and then go over to 35 from the road that goes to Eagle Pass.  Within a matter of 40 miles we were pulled over twice.  Once for speeding (73 in a 70) and the second time for not having the front license plate on (there's a winch there instead).  Apparently in talking to the highway patrol men, that highway has become a major road from drug running so they pull over anyone with even the slightest thing wrong.

We only got warnings.  However, we found out that Bobo is VERY FIERCELY protective of the truck.  The first guy wasn't a big deal until he walked back past the rear seat window and Bobo just about slammed into the window snarling at the guy.  Scared us because he's never done that before, but not that atypical for a heeler.  I got bobo under control and the cop commented on how glad he was that the window was up.  Luckily he only saw Bobo and not Kaiser poised behind him.

The second guy that pulled us over about 15 minutes later asked for all the paperwork and whatnot and then goes "Is there anyone in the back seat of your truck?"

As he starts in the direction of the rear seat and starts to look through the window, we were both in mid sentence of DOGS!!! Bobo and Kaiser both lunged at the window.  Nothing like seeing a snarling red heeler followed by a giant pissed off akita lunging in your direction.  Luckily the windows were only cracked a bit, but the poor guy jumped about 10 feet back and screamed.

We apologized as much as we could and luckily he had a good sense of humor.  However, we did have the truck searched just in case.  Apparently our waterproof bags containing our suitcases and traveling material looked similar to drug smuggling bags.  Something we had not anticipated prior to driving in that area.

After we got on the road, Duck commented, "Well, we were wondering if Bobo would ever come out of his shell and be protective instead of always running away."  Guess he turned that corner.  Now we just have to make sure he doesn't become too aggresive.   And we now know that Bobo doesn't like cops.

Re: So.... Bobo doesn't like the Popo

  • WOW.  What an ordeal!

Aaannnd, I just remembered I forgot to call you back.  I'm a dumbass.  Sorry.  I've been in a dark place lately.

  • Yeah it was.  We've never heard a peep out of Bobo except when he chases bikes along the fenceline as they drive by Duck's house.  Even then, he's just barking at them.  This time, I thought it was Kaiser but nope.  Brought back memories of Wingnut snapping at people who got too close to "his truck."

No worries on the call back.  But you better call back soon.  My schedule has lightened up a lot more in the afternoons and evenings so I'd love to come see you and finally meet baby pixie.

As for the dark place...  the light switch is on your left.  Wink  Love you.

  • My dogs do this EVERY time we pass the check point driving north.  It doesn't help with all the drug dogs walking around.  Usually they see RC first, and they laugh, and then they see Bella and freak out.
