anybody else save the top of cake?
We actually did the whole freezing the top of the cake thing and now that our anniversary is fast approaching, I was wondering how you thaw this thing out so it can taste slightly less like cardboard. Honestly, the thought of eating year old cake is pretty icky but HE was the one that wanted to do it! I would just have our baker make a new top tier (much smaller, of course) but I have gestational diabetes so that is out of the question. I'm hoping one bite REALLY won't kill me. . . So, if any of you are doing this tradition too, please let me know how you plan on thawing out the cake. TIA!
Re: anybody else save the top of cake?
We also saved the top tier of our cake. I'm going to be so happy when we get to take it out of the freezer, it's taking up so much room!
I don't think we'll worry about it tasting like paper though b/c we bought a plastic air tight cake storer to hold it safe in the freezer, then wrapped that in a plastic bag. Hopefully it will be okay.
My great aunt and uncle actually kept their top tier until their 50th Anniversary! (gross I know, but they used traditional fruit cake back then) They defrosted it, scrapped off the icing and had some at their anniversary party. I think it's a push to even have it on the first anniversary!

We'll either have a small one made by our baker or just get yummy dessert from the Cheesecake Factory where we are going to dinner the Saturday before our anniversary.
We didn't keep our. Although I have read that you need to defrost it in the frig.
Since we are going out to eat, I am thinking about seeing if the restuarant will make a special dessert or if they will allow me to bring in a cake that my baker makes.
We saved ours too. Wrapped it well and put it in a freezer that my grandmother has for all her baked goods. I herd that the correct way to do this is to transport the cake and start to defrost in the refrigerator for a day or two. Than you can most probably take it out and let it sit for a bit before you slice it.
I am also scared to try it to be honest.
I am not sure how that fondant held up!!!!
We didn't save ours

We are going to The Melting Pot....don't know how many of you know what that is...I just found out what it was not too long ago.....but its a big fondue place.....they do this big 4 course meal that starts with a big salad, then cheese fondue, then the main course and you get steak and chicken and shrimp and all that good stuff and then at the end is a big chocolate fondue.....*OH MAN* I'm going to be in heaven......
