Plato's Closet FAIL

I took some stuff to sell to the new Brodie Plato's Closet and it was a bust. Almost all of it was from Banana Republic, Gap, Arden B, and Nine West (shoes and boots). They told me upfront that they wanted stuff that 12 to 20 year olds would buy... uh, not so much for this oldster. I would have been surprised that they didn't want ANY of my things except that I browsed around and almost everything out on the racks was from Target, Walmart, Charlotte Russe, and Forever 21. It looked like most of the stuff they have bought is geared towards selling to 6th Street party gals - lots of hoochie mama heels and cheapo tops. Oh yeah, and they had almost nothing one could wear to work (unless you work at a 6th St. club??? I guess). The only pants they had were shorty shorts, mini skirts, and jeans.

Just thought I would make a PSA in case anyone was interested. Oh well.

Re: Plato's Closet FAIL

  • Dude that totally sucks!  I don't understand why the PC's down here suck so bad.... because I have been to a few up in CO and have found some cute work tops from Banana Republic, Express and Gap.  The stores up there have such a better variety of clothes... maybe because they actually have seasons up there.  I'm so bummed... I was really looking forward to having a store down here for some cheap stuff for work or jeans.  I don't think anyone needs to buy Walmart brand, Target brand and Forever 21 discounted... that stuff is already super cheap.

    I know - why would I pay $10 for a USED t-shirt from Target?

  • Just FYI, the one at 1431 and 183 is exactly the same way. And they're not very nice either. :-(

  • Good to know, I won't even bother.  I have a pile of clothes I had planned to haul there, but they're mostly the type you mentioned.

The woman who helped me at the Brodie location was very nice and professional (and I dare say that she was probably older than I am).

  • I went today with my 12 year old neices, the clothes were ok for them but they did have about 5 pairs of awesome old cowoy boots that were $15! sizes 71/2 and 6. They were SO cute!
  • Remember my post about this awhile back?  Yeah, they pretty much made me feel like and old outdated loser.
  • Hmmm... so any suggestions on where I could take some nice shoes? I'm talking Stuart Weitzman pumps and the like. I could always donate them to Goodwill, but I have probably half a dozen really nice pairs of shoes, some that have barely been worn, and it would be nice to make a little $ on them.

I would put those on Craigs or eBay. With consignment, you only get to keep a piece of the profit anyway.  I guess Plato's Closet and Buffalo Exchange pay you up front, but it's less than you'd make on your own.

  • I highly recommend Resyle Austin on Burnet Road.  They have great quality, selection and a designer rack too.  Good sales and specials via email.  As a matter of fact, she is having a winter sale starting the 4th which is 50%-90% off all winter clothes.  The ladies there are all super nice too!

  • Have you tried Designer Exchange?

You don't get a whole lot of money, but it's better than nothing.

  • I second Designer Exchange!
