Travelling with a baby

Opinions from all... do you think it would be better to fly direct for 6 hours with a one-year-old or have at least one stop even though that will make the whole travel day 8 hours? Thoughts? [Poll]

Re: Travelling with a baby

  • I'm always a fan of having non-stop flights. Its only 6 hours and while that's kind of a long flight it's probably better than having to board the plane, get all settled, then land and get off the plane to get to your next flight and then get back on the plane with Dex only to have to get him re-settled on the flight and have another short-ish flight to your final destination. And this way he only has to go up and down once and have to deal with the changes in altitude ear popping and incase that makes him uncomfortable you only have to have an unhappy baby going up once and going down once.
  • i think nonstop would be best and hopefully he will sleep for a little bit on the plane.
  • I voted non-stop for travel ease.  I can't imagine lugging everything you need on and off the plan more than once.  I know it's hard to travel with small children, but Dex might surprise you.  I did a 13 hour flight to Tokyo with a baby nearby that was 6-12 mos old and didn't hear any tantrums.
  • Non-stop.  I would not want to have to change planes with a baby and all the gear.

  • i would be concerned with the take off and landing - i voted for non-stop because then you only have to go through it once.

oh, and i think you are mistaken, the trip to FL is only 2 hours and 20 minutes non-stop...so you'll be fine.  Wink

  • I think you should do a straight flight.  It might be easier to just do it all at once.  Hopefully he will sleep some of the trip.  Less chance of his ears getting plugged twice from the take off and landing. Pack him a new toy for the trip.  That should help a little.  Will he watch movies?  Portable dvd player.  Lots of snacks!

  • I agree with everyone else! I am a fan of non stops myself. I was gonna be cute and vote to leave him with the grandparents Wink

Whenever Baby Sharpie is ready to meet Mickey Mouse we will be on the next plane!

  • I wasn't going to vote cause I honestly have never had to take a baby on a plane. Or been around a baby on a plane. But after thinking about it, I'm going to agree that nonstop would probably be my choice. I'd imagine he could get more agitated and cranky with being lugged around all day instead of just sitting for 6 hours.
