Birthday gift idea for soon-to-be mom

So, first off, hello to everyone.  I used the knot for some wedding planning, and I check out the nest every now and then.  You all have some really wonderful tips/recipes/suggestions/etc, so hopefully, someday, I will be able to contribute something to help someone else out.  My DH and I have been married for a year in March and we live in central/north Austin (I grew up here, so I have a hard time figuring out what is considered north Austin these days).  I work nights, which explains the 5am post.

So, I am coming out of lurkdom (hopefully for good) to ask for some suggestions on what to get a soon-to-be mom for her birthday.  We are having her baby shower/birthday party on the same day...shower will be girls only and birthday party will include all the guys.  Of course, I got her baby stuff for the shower, but I want to get her something she would like that is just for her.  Problem is, I am not a mom, so I am having trouble coming up with ideas.  Thanks in advance!

  • One of the first things I can think of is a massage. I can't think of a woman that doesn't like them. :) Or even just a pedicure and manicure. Something that pampers her since I'm sure she's feeling a little drained. HTH

  • I would think that a nice comfy robe and/or slippers would also be nice. She can wear both during the pregnancy and after.

This!!  We've done this for a few of our friends, and they have loved it.  If you go this route, just make sure the salon/spa offers massages for pregnant women!!

  • How close is she to due? Last friend I had whose birthday was about a month before she was due, I made her a "post-natal stress relief" basket. It included a bottle of wine, bath stuff with essential oils (not all that stuff is safe while pregnant apparently), loofah, eye mask, etc. She loved it (even though she had to wait a little while to use most of it). Other than that, a massage or mani/pedi would probably be greatly appreciated!
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Maybe a massage or some other services at a nice day spa?  Something where she can go and relax and have some pampering done just for herself.
  • Depending on how far along she is, I would think maybe prepaying for a maid service for a few visits?  That way, she could have a maid come scrub down her house right before the baby came to have everything set to go, or possibly to use if after the baby came when time and energy are scarce?  Just a thought...I love the massage or gift basket ideas too.
  • If she's pretty early in her pregnancy, I totally would rec a massage/spa GC.  Anything past her third trimester and she would probably be too uncomfortable to really enjoy any pampering (unless it was just a pedicure).

If she's in her third trimester, maid services and/or a GC to some kind of meal delivery service would be AWESOME.

  • Definitely anything spa - mani/pedi would be a great gift!

Make it personal - not baby related so she will feel special.
