Anovulatory Cycle (NFP)

I charted for about 6 months 3 years ago (I was writing a paper on NFP for a human sexuality class) and I started again when FI and I got engaged 13 months ago. Every cycle I've charted, I've ovulated on day 17 and my period starts on day 30.

This month, I had fertile-quality CM CDs 14-17, a temperature spike CD 19, then temperature fell CD 21 and 22, and my period started CD 22.

I don't think I ovulated because my temp didn't stay high for 3 days, but I've never had an anovulatory cycle. WDYT?

This would be a bad time for my body to whack out- we are getting married in 2 months!

Re: Anovulatory Cycle (NFP)

  • I would re-post this on getting pregnant. Those ladies know a lot about this stuff.
  • Stress can cause anovulatory cycles. Wedding stress could definitely do that. Most women have the occaisional anovulatory cycle. I had one the month we moved and a bunch of work stress all at once.

  • Were you also checking your CM? That is more of a sign than the temps, since everyone is different.

  • My guess would be that it's an anovulatory cycle.  It sounds similar to the pattern of my chart when I have anovulatory cycles.  If you've been charting for a while and this is the first wacky cycle, it could be stress.... but many women have an occasional anovulatory cycle every once in a while, and things return to normal the next cycle.  I'd say that you should just try to keep the stress as low as possible, eat right, take vitamins, all that good stuff, and see what happens.  GL!

ETA:  Are you certain that CD 22 was your period and not mid-cycle spotting?  I had one cycle with delayed ovulation in which I had spotting starting around CD 25 -- it was a lighter flow than usual and a different color (sorry if TMI).  Then, about a week later, I finally ovulated and the rest of the cycle concluded as normal.
