C-section on Today Show this morning
Dr. Nancy was in the operating room with a family giving birth by scheduled C-section. At first I was my normal smug self, doubting that this surgery was neccessary. Then the attending physician even said the c-section rate is between 25-30%. I'm feeling even more smug since we as a country have an abnormally high c-section rate. Then they put the baby on the scale and I was feeling even more smug until the little boy weighed in at 10 pounds, then I felt like an a$$.
Even though I say the wrong thing, jump to conclusions I just waned to confess that I often realize when I'm an @ss.

i completely agree, choosing to have a c sect is rediculous! I have had both and i can tell you it is not the best way and the recovery is not fun. I flipped out after 17 hours of labor only to discover that my little bundle of joy had completely flipped and her foot was coming out instead of her head...emergency c for me...why anyone wants to have their stomach cut open is beyond me.
the only time i see it okay to schedule a c is when you have already had one and/or dont want to do VBAC. (I dont know a lot about VBAC)
yeah, the only time scheduled c/s are okay is for the second baby.
My mom had to practically force the doctor to give me a c/s when I was not dilating past 1 cm and contractions were every 45 seconds. With no epi. Sucked big ones.
Not all the time. If a baby is breech, they will almost always schedule a section. The chances of babe's head getting stuck are greatly increased and way too much can go wrong.
Hubby and I agree that we'd rather a vaginal birth. Scheduled inductions/c-sections just take some of the surprise out of it. Just because it's more convenient for you or the doctor doesn't mean it's better for the baby. Then again, it scares the bejeebus out of me to think my husband was 10 lbs 12 oz!!! EEK!
There are some recent stats showing that breech vaginal births are on the rise due to more education. I don't doubt that they are more difficult though. But I would also consider that medically neccessary.
agreed! I was barely able to squeeze out an 8 1/2 pound baby as opposed to a 10 pounder
