Cleaning ?s

So this is where I start to think I have a touch of possible OCD.  LOL When we move in someplace, I go CRAZY.. things have to be cleaned to the point of obsession and disinfected.  (You just never know what other people have left behind. Tongue Tied)

The ceilings where we're moving aren't the cleanest - we're not painting them, though, but we are going to wash them down.  Any suggestions on what to use?

Also, all of the woodwork is original to 1988. (I don't think it's technically varnished or stained.)  MH suggested we use Murphy's Oil on it; I think that's a good idea for the baseboards and such, but the kitchen cabinets I'm hesitating on.  Would you?  What about the inside of the cabinets?  (I really want to hose them down with Lysol, but wood = porous, so Lysol probably isn't the best idea.)

Re: Cleaning ?s

  • I think a cap full of murphey's oil soup in really hot water will be your best bet.  When it comes to the kitchen cabinet faces, I would try not to scrub too hard.  Just enough to get the typical kitchen grease/stickyness off.

  • I would do what Mel suggested.  When we moved into our new house that's what we did (the people we bought the house from were super clean but I'm always wary of germs).

  • I second the Murphy's oil soap for all the woodwork. When we moved here I used Lysol all purpose spray inside the cabinets. I was so skeeved out by the crumbs/dust in there. I ususally use all natural products, but when we first moved in I attacked this place with the strong crap.
