decorating for wedding shower-need some advice

So i'm my sister-in-laws maid of honor and i need some ideas to decorate for her wedding shower. now i don't have alot of money since i'm getting married the month after her shower and i'm not sure if many of her bridesmaids will even be there to help. any ways -  i have the place, now i need decorating ideas.

she loves fashion, reading, and movies. she works at a hospital and this summer will be starting medical school. her wedding will be at her parents backyard: black/white/silver colors, a little formal at the ceremony and reception, then informal because she wants it to turn into a pool party.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: decorating for wedding shower-need some advice

  • The decor for the shower will largely depend on your venue.  Is it at your home?  A reception hall?  A restaurant?
  • a reception hall with either long tables or circle tables
  • Are you locked into the reception hall?  There's no one's home available or nice restaurant?  To make a hall feel nice, you often have to go all out on decor and that costs money.
  • its our church's hall so we have it for free basically and we dont really want to do anything to the walls, just tables like color ideas and centerpieces.
  • She sounds fun and modern.  I'm going to throw out ideas that might seem all over the place in the hopes that you'll like something and run with it.

I would go with a fresh color combo: something like yellow/black or lime/navy.  Of course, you might have to take a cue from the colors of the hall.  I'd shy away from anything that says "shower" and just have colors help set the mood.

For easy decor, how about vases of lemons or limes?  Guests can take them home after the shower too.

For her love of movies, what about a game where guests have to match celebrity or movie couples.  Find photos online to print on your home computer.

Virtually "free" decor: Can you frame photos of her growing up for?  Maybe her mom has photos of her playing dress up, which will showcase her love of fashion.

If the ceiling of the hall allows, could you buy a bunch of dollar store umbrellas and hang them upside down from the ceiling?  Guests can take them home as favors at the end of the shower.  You can have an umbrella on the invite to bring the theme together.  Might make a nice impact.

To include "books", maybe you can buy a blank journal and call it "Jane's Wife Survivial Guide" and have guests write a message to her.  I know it's not really associated to reading, but I took a shot.

Oh!  And one important thing... if you can help it, dim some of the hall lights and bring in a couple of lamps from home.  It'll help make everything look pretty!  Promise.

    HTH a little.  GL!

  • vases of flowers would be a nice touch...maybe something inexpensive like carnation. they would look nice tightly bunched together.
