Val & Mel (not a tax question!)

Advanced Accounting sucks.  That is all.   Please tell me Auditing will not be so bad?

ETA:  I felt I should throw a disclaimer in the title for fear you'd think I was just asking tax questions.  Smile

Re: Val & Mel (not a tax question!)

  • Advanced Accounting is the devil's spawn.  The semester I took it the university decided to make it an elective...I had the option to drop it since it wasn't required anymore, but like a dumbass, I stuck with it and earned myself a C+.

I thought Audit was good (but I'm an auditor, so I'd hope I liked it).  It's a lot of memorizing things that you will never ever have to know off the top of your head again.  I had problems with financial statement assertions...actually, I spent tons of time on them while studying for the exam too and just couldn't get them.  That's not normal though.  Stick out tongue

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • Well, glad I'm not alone in my dislike of Advanced.  It's the first class that had made me ask, "why do I want to do this again?"   I'm now of the mindset that companies should never merge or invest in one another.  Wink   Although, I'm hoping half of my problem is because we're covering 2-3 chapters per week and it's just mental overload.  I'll start Auditing next month, so I'll have to let you know how that goes.  I'm hoping it's like a breath of fresh air after this class!!
  • Haha, I actually preferred Advanced over Auditing.  My auditing teacher sucked and I found Advanced to be interesting.  We did mostly partnerships and governmental/NFP accounting.

We did a lot of consolidations in Advanced.  There's a whole course on governmental/NFP accounting that I haven't been able to take yet...I want though since that was my specialty when I was in public accounting.  I couldn't get consoidations down until I had to do them IRL.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • Consolidations may have been in there too.  I just remember partnerships because it took up so much damn columnar paper and government accounting because it was so odd.

  • That's what we've mostly been doing so far... consolidations.  Only a couple more chapter on consolidations, and then we're moving on to fund accounting.  I'm looking forward to that bit (probably because I don't know any better... lol).

  • I'm a dork.  I love fund accounting.  Well, as much as a person can love accounting.
