Did anyone see Avatar?

This is normally not a movie that I would be interested in seeing, but all the hype has me intrigued!  Anyone want to share a review?

Re: Did anyone see Avatar?

  • I saw it.  The story has been told a thousand times, but the visuals are pretty amazing.  I think it was worth seeing in 3-D.

  • DH and I saw it, and we both liked it. The story was a little weak, but the special effects made up for it. Definitely see it in 3D on the big screen, it wouldn't be nearly as good to just rent it.
  • DH and I saw it but not in 3D.  It was a good movie and if you are going to ever see it, see it in the theater rather than waiting to see it on DVD.  The attention to detail is what I really noticed and it was just really visually stunning.  The story was a bit weak, I agree though.

  • I agree with the pp's - the story was kind of meh, but it's visually stunning.  And the work that went into creating that world is amazing!  James Cameron said on Oprah that he hired a botanist to create and name all of the plants on Pandora, and he hired a linguist to create not only a language for the N'aavi, but also a common N'aavi accent for all of the actors for when they speak English!  It's easy to see why it took 4 years to make!

  • I saw it in 3-D, but not IMAX (only because the IMAX show was sold out when we went).  I think it's worth seeing in theaters, and was worth my rarely spent movie theater dollars *if* you can do 3-D.  The visuals are extremely well done and pretty viewing.  The plot was recycled and the dialog was weak at best, so if you can't see it in 3-D, it's not all that special.  It's long, too, so make sure you go to a theater with comfy seats and where you'll be awake and comfortable for a long time.  (I think it was 2 hr. 40 min.)
  • Agreed with PP's see it in 3D!
  • Everytime we get a chance and a babysitter, its sold out!!!  We are hoping to get to go soon though!! Although Im pretty sure DH just wants to wear the glasses.
  • You might think twice after reading this article on Avatar-induced suicide!

To be clear, I don't think that's an actual risk of seeing the movie, but I do feel bad who felt disenchanted with reality after seeing the film.

  • i heard it was amazing too! I'm very intrigued by the graphics and visuals more than anything.

Goodness. Don't they know that it's just a movie and EVERYTHING looks good in a movie? It's not a perfect world, esp if it were real, there would be problems.

Too bad all these people can't take these feelings and put them to good use and make our world a better place.

I liked the movie. I didn't loooove the movie like so many but I thought it was good. Can't say I will want to watch it again or buy it. It's like a once a year, if that, kind of movie.

Took 2 years & 8 months to make our baby! Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • its worth seeing in the theater (imax 3d if possible). if i didnt see it in the theater i probably wouldnt bother. Like others said, the plot is cheesy and lacking originality. But the visuals are beautiful and well done, and the world they created is intriguing.

also, consider buying tix through fandango, i went this past saturday, and its still selling out.
