Las Cruces Info please!!!

Greetings from a Chicago Knottie-

Im sorry for intruding, but I was seeking information on Las Cruces (and surrounding areas). We may be transfered down there as early as this fall. We know very little about the area, so any helpful information would be greatly appreciated!! (schools, dining, shopping, good neighborhoods etc). We will be newlywed at that point and trying to start a family shortly after. Just trying to make the best decision....

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!!

Re: Las Cruces Info please!!!

  • Las Crucen, born and raised!  I love the whole area.  The average home price right now is between $170,000-$210,000 for 3bd 2 bath ~2000 sq. feet.  There are many really good neighborhoods all over town depending on what you'll be looking for (something in the valley or desert, new or existing, etc.).

Shopping isn't so great, we have a mall and most of your normal retail stores, but your best bet is to head to El Paso, which is about 40 minutes away.  As far as dining goes, we have lots of really good mexican food.  We also have a pretty good mix of chain and local spots with really good food.  If there is something we don't have, there's a good chance El Paso will.

Hope that helps some.  The weather is really nice here- mild winters and warm (hot) summers, and I'm sure you will end up loving it.  Feel free to email me jana c @ nmsu dot edu if you have any more questions, and I'll do my best to answer them!

  • I'm new to the Las Cruces/Alamagordo area as well. We've traveled to El Paso for shopping as there's not much in Las Cruces. I'm not sure about the school system as we do not have children, and will not have school aged children before leaving here (military). There are a lot of great places to eat here & in El Paso, whether you're looking for a chain, or local restaurant. Good luck :)
