does anyone else...

get ridiculously anxious when they throw stuff away? like...mostly just stuff from their childhood...or things that have kind of tagged along with you for a while....

my example for the evening is...there is a very old monopoly game that has gone with me from my parents house, to various apartments, and now to our home...however, this game hasn't been played in probably 10 or more years, it is missing pieces, and is just altogether worthless....LOL however, i put it in my "get rid of" pile this weekend, and when DH took it to the street tonight...i had to bring it back in for some reason.... LOL

what is wrong with me!? LOL like i just got really nervous about throwing it away for some reason! LOL

Re: does anyone else...

  • You should so talk to my DH about this...he freaks out any time I give anything away...he's always worried that something is going to accidentally get into the bag going to the mission store...
  • I'm the same way but mostly about clothes...I may need them one dayBig Smile
  • I am the same way!!
  • Ah, yeah...like when you kept hauling the Christmas tree into the back yard and hiding it so it would not go in the garbage truck...you hid that thing repeatedly...I think it was April when we finally got rid of it. You never have liked to get rid of things like that, it's like you attach a lot of importance to it, like it has a life on it's own. :)

AND I'm the same way. LOL

  • the monopoly man lives...i swear....he was smiling so big when i pulled him out of the trash tonight!! LOL

but yeah...i get that way about clothes and stuff too....like it kind of give me a mini meltdown attack when i see the truck loading them up and driving away....omg....

  • I had a similar issue today myself. Remember that lint brush, the one you took to the pageant? That brush was purchased in the 70's, in Montreal. I've had it for all these years, then you used it. I broke it today, the handle snapped off and out of the head...There's no way it will be any good to me from now on. I threw the handle away but I haven't been able to throw away the head. Now is that sick or what? lol
  • My husband is like this. I pretty much steal things and get rid of them without telling him. He never knows they're gone. :)

I'm evil, but if I didn't do it our house would look like his mother's and that's NOT ok with me.?

I have to do this too!!! LOL  When we first got married and moved he had all of his pay stubs from the time he was 15, all of his bank statements since he opened the account, and all of his clothes from the time he was in junior high!!!!!!!  It took me forever to convince him he didn't need all of that stuff anymore.

i really love getting rid of clutter and making more space and all that comes with throwing out stuff....it is usually just the act of saying "i don't need this anymore" and putting it in the trash that freaks me out! the monopoly game was sitting on top of some boxes in the garage this morning...LOL

we also threw out this beach umbrella that i somehow ended up with....it came from my parents house (where we lived much closer to the beach and probably used the umbrella) and i got slightly panicy over seeing that in the trash ready to go today.... LOL what in the heck! i just need someone to come to my house, take all the crap that i "can't" throw away, and throw it away... LOL

I'm like that too... Mostly because I grew up in a one income household where money was very tight and a lot of time I just had to do without a lot of things... so when I throw something away, I feel guilty because I might need it later and my subconsious feels like when I need it later, I won't be able to get another one.

I also have emotional attachments to literally everything I own, and I hate throwing things away that have memories attached :)

  • I do!  Admittedly, I keep paper clutter b/c I'm afraid if I throw it away I'll need it. And also things from when I was younger too.  Nothing's wrong with holding on to sentimental stuff!
