Valentine's Day?

what's everyone doing for valentine's day this year? gifts? dinner plans/menus?

i can't believe its February already!

Re: Valentine's Day?

  • feb 14th is also chinese new year, so i think i'll cook us up a chinese feast Smile we might invite over some friends to join us. i'm not all that big on v-day. i want to do some sort of gift for DH but it'll be homemade... just haven't thought of what yet.

  • We are cooking dinner at home and doing fondue for dessert.  Nothing to fancy and pretty low key.Smile

  • We're thinking of going to Driftwood Estate Winery if the weather isn't as miserable as it has been, relatively cheap wine and live music...hooray!
  • I have no idea what we're doing. Probably nothing though. I hate crowds for resturants and since I can't drink a winery is outCrying.

I don't know. We're just lost this year.

  • Yay!  Since DH and I started dating, our little tradition is getting a half baked  heart shaped deep dish pizza from Mangia, baking it at home, and sharing a bottle of wine. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to start a tradition!!
We're not much for the high prices and poor service on valentine's day - so we like doing the homebody thing Stick out tongue.

  • what I would *love* to do and reality are two very different things.

We'll probably end up hanging out at home, avoiding the crowds and the expense.  I'm sure we'll do cards and small gifts to eachother.  I know we don't "need" gifts - but it's too hard to resist.  I love buying things for DH.  I have a feeling we'll order a pizza and hang out on the couch... cuddling. awwwwww....

  • We're going to Vermont for a long weekend!  I can't wait.

    Nice!

No plans here. I am OOT for work until late on the 13th, so DH can't count on me for much planning.

  • we're running the Austin Marathon together!  Well...I'm just doing half of it.  Snail Then I'll skip on over to the finish line and wait for him.

  • it's birthday season in our family.  this weekend's dh's birthday, mine and my niece's are next weekend, and my nephew's the weekend after that.  so we'll be making the round of little kid parties and probably going out for dh's.   other than that, no big plans.

  • We never do Valentine's Day.  This year we'll be in Michigan that weekend visiting family, and my nephew's birthday party is on the 14th.

  • I haven't really thought about v-day.  We're so busy this month and have spent so much money on a wedding that we're going to at the end of the month that I doubt we'll get each other anything.  I'll probably cook steak, garlic mashed potatos, maple glazed carrots, and a cheesecake for dessert.  Nothing major.
  • We usually make a nice dinner at home.  Last year was tillapia with citrus cream sauce and veggies from the farmer's market.  We just hang out and have a nice night in.

I don't sign up for the gift portion bc we have birthdays, anniversaries, etc. but I do think it's a nice reminder to appreciate what we have in our marriage.

  • Ideally, we'd love to go out to a fabulous restaurant, but I know we probably won't get our act together in time to make reservations. Plus, DH is a CPA and busy season has started, so it's always hard to make plans this time of year. Think we're going to opt for some Saccone's pizza (probably the best pizza in town, according to this NYer...) and watch the Olympics on the couch. Works for me! (Plus, I get to eat all the leftovers when he goes back out of town the next day...) Win-win!
  • Nothing, absolutely nothing.  DH is not the romantic type at all.  I can already tell you he'll probably buy flowers the day before, and then that night put them out in a vase so I'll be "surprised" valentine's morning.  He works valentine's day.  He's done this EXACT same thing for the past two years on both Valentine's day and my b-day.  I guess it's better than nothing, but a little more thought would be nice.  And now I'll be a little bitter....he ALWAYS gets roses.  I don't even like roses much, I like tulips and lillies and daisies.  He knows this.  But I think he's just lazy.

  • We don't usually do anything because our 1st date anniversary is the 20th, so we "celebrate" then.  Usually just dinner.

Saccones is the BEST pizza in Austin! We order it WAY more than we should. I lived in Jersey for a few years and my family is from NY state and it is so hard to find something like back East.

  • Hanging out with the new baby in the hospital.  :)  My c/s is the 12th.  I told DH he can bring me a special Valentine's meal of Mighty Fine.

That sounds awesome.  I wish there was a Mangia in DFW.

We're probably going to do the home thing also.  I kinda want to order PF Changs or something to take home.  I do have a GC to one of my favorite fancy restaurants but there's no way I'm going to deal with the crowds/parking/etc on that day so we'll probably just save it for another time.

  • Nothing really this year. Every few years we celebrate it just because, but I think we've done that twice and this will be our 8th Valentine's Day together.

We've just recovered from Christmas, then our wedding anniversary is January 25, our first anniversary is February 6, and my birthday is February 23 (not to mention all the family birthdays in January/February). I'd much rather celebrate our wedding or my birthday!

So Valentine's Day is probably just going to get a home cooked meal and some alone time. Since Fly mentioned it's the Chinese New Year, maybe we'll do Chinese since it's DH's favorite! I have no idea how to cook Chinese food, though ...

  • We're not big on celebrating Vday, but this year, since my sister-in-law got us a gift card for Ztejas...I think we'll go on Vday and have ourselves a nice meal, a glass of vino and a kiss.

That sounds like an awesome Valentines! I can't believe you're so close!

  • We're giving each other a new garage door opener. It's so romantic.

Haha.. We have so many friends born in Feb, it's ridiculous.  It's bday season in our family also.  Friday is MIL bday, Saturday is my bday, Sunday is DH's bff's bday, and if all goes as planned with the c-section we have scheduled, our DD will be born the day after Vday.

  • Last year we made plans for V-day for the first time ever - dinner reservations, the whole bit. And then FIL and MIL had a fight, and MIL came to visit b/c she was so mad at FIL. Which ruined our plans and TOTALLY sucked. So, in the spirit of not jinxing things, we have no plans. Maybe we'll go out to dinner, maybe we'll order pizza...who knows. My expectations got seriously re-adjusted last year - so long as it's just DH and me this time, this year's V Day is a win in my book.
  • DH and I decided at the very last minute that we're going to New Orleans after the Saints won playoffs 2 weeks ago.  Neither of us have been to NO during Mardi Gras...and although it might be a tad bit crowded and crazy (not the least bit romantic)...we're still very excited!

I'm sure we'll find things to do (outside of the festivities) to keep the romance alive on V-day.
