the reviews on yelp.com are very mixed about this place while the reviews on urban spoon are very favorable, but i just wanted to put it out there because dh and i ate there a couple of nights ago and really liked it and will definitely go back.
it's "dulces" and it's in the lakeline mall, where the brick oven used to be. i don't normally consider going to the mall for dinner, but dh wanted to try it since he'd read about it in the "community impact" newspaper that we get. (anyone else in the cp/leander area just love the "community impact"?!)
first of all, the restaurant is gorgeous. loved the artwork, loved the chandeliers, loved the fountains. it's not tex-mex (one of the yelp reviews gave it low ratings because it wasn't tex-mex -- hello! if you read your "community impact", you'll know that it's not trying to be!), but there are isn't anything on the menu that you wouldn't recognize in some way. as a couple on a budget, we usually go for some place that's not quite as pricey (dh's fajitas were $15, my enchiladas verde were $12), but we felt that the food was just excellent, so we didn't mind.
dh's fajitas came with peppers and onions that were very light and were not swimming in oil or completely limp. the tortillas are obviously made at the restaurant. they come with a very tasty salsa, and dh really liked the flavor of the meat (he had beef). i had the enchiladas verde, and the sauce was really incredible. very light, slightly tangy and citrusy. the rice that came with it (i always get double rice, no beans) was fantastic. the whole meal just had a lighter feel to it that was great. (i guess i'm kind of comparing it in my mind to some place like chuy's where the food's good, but it feels "heavy" to me in comparison.)
anyway, thought i'd throw out my 2 cents in case you're looking for some place new. i also think it would be a good place to go for a more romantic dinner. it has that kind of atmosphere; you can tell that whoever owns it dropped some big money on that place.
and afterwards, i got to go to dollar tree and macy's, so a perfect night all around.
