Recommend your favorite organic milk?
I am wanting to switch our milk purchase to an organic brand. Can you please recommend a great brand that has a reasonable price? Thx
Re: Recommend your favorite organic milk?
The best national brand I think is Organic Valley. It's an umbrella group, or co-op, for local dairy farmers who treat their cows well. Alisha has more info on why they're so great. I'm just kinda going on her word that the cows are treated well. That's more than I can say for Horizon, I know they don't treat their cows well.
If I can make it to Whole Foods before I run out of milk, I get the Homestead Creamery brand in the environmentally-friendly glass bottles. While they're not organic they are horomone free. And local, the dairy is only 4 hours from me. Plus it's not ultra-pasturized, just pasturized, so it's fresher. I can really taste that.
THANK YOU this is great!!!
LOOOOOVE Organic Valley! It's soooo yummy! My husband calls it "candy milk" because it tastes so good!
I buy Heritage/Stremicks because it is local (well, just about as local as you can get where I live). It received a 4/5 cow rating at http://www.cornucopia.org/dairysurvey/index.html, but the local factor makes up that last cow for me. :-)
I tried to buy Organic Valley, but the only store that is supposed to carry it near me (according to their website) didn't have any of their products. I emailed them to ask if their database was up-to-date, but they never responded and now I get random emails from them.
I think its been mentioned...I looove Organic Valley. The milk itself has always been fresh-tasting and long-lasting for me, and I really like the 'company' (its actually a co-op). I'm on their email and regular mailing list, and usually I hate that, but I like the info they send me, and the quarterly? Rootstock magazine.
COUPONS!
OMG, I love you!
