Travel help for old nestie

Hi all!  I am mostly a lurker now and pop in every so often.  I got married in Maui 3 1/2 years ago and DH and I are finally getting a chance to go back.  We were thinking about going at the end of March - but are wondering if that is a busy time in Maui.  (We prefer it to not be too crazy busy if we can help it).  If so, would the end of April be better?

Next question - any suggestions on where to stay?  We loved the Wailea/Kihei area, but don't really want to pay $500+/night for some of the really nice hotels in Wailea.  Any suggestions on anything more affordable?  Or where to go to get good deals?  Flights are pretty expensive right now, so I am hoping to save a little on lodging (but dont want to sacrifice quality too much).

TIA!

Re: Travel help for old nestie

  • Whenever we go to Maui we just stay in a condo to cut down on costs and get our food from Costco for breakfasts and lunches to cook in the condo.  We usually spend our money on going out to dinner.  The last time we went to Maui (for our wedding), we stayed in the Maui Kai in Kahului (Room #306).  It was an older condo, but the room was very clean and updated.  The view was spectacular.

We are planning to go back the last week of April as MH won a trip through his work and they are putting us up in the Ritz in Wailea.  Thank goodness that is not on our dime because I would not like to pay $500+/night as well.

Maybe search VRBO.com for some good deals on condos.  That might be your best bet.  HTH :)

  • just wanted to say hi :)
  • When we go to Maui we usually stay in the Kaanapali area.  There are tons of smaller condos and hotels there.  Last year we stayed at a place called the Kahana Beach Resort.  It's mostly timeshare units but you can reserve them through Expedia or the resort's website.  We had a corner unit and had a great view of the mountains and ocean.  We could even see whales from our unit!  It's definitely not anything fancy like the super post Wailea resorts but when we go on trips, we're usually out and about for most of the day so a basic clean room is pretty much all we need.  Smile

You might still be able to see the whales if you go in late March!

  • We just got married on Maui a couple of months ago and the majority of our guests stayed at either Kamaole Sands or the Wailea Marriot and were very happy. You may be able to get specials at the Marriott or I found this website for newly renovated condos at Kamaole Sands which would definitely be the most afffordable. http://www.mauigoldcondos.com/vacation-home-community.asp?CommunityID=156

     Have fun!
