Olympics

I get so flippin excited for the Olympics.  I'm a total sucker for the heart-felt bios set to inspirational music NBC makes for the athletes.  Sports that I would never normally care about, I can watch endlessly when it's the Olympics--I freaking love them.

Is anyone else excited about the Olympics?  Do you prefer winter or summer?  Any particular sports?

Re: Olympics

  • I'm stoked!! If the opening ceremonies are even half as amazing as the Beijing ones, I'll be amazed. I'm obsessed with the summer olympics. I'm a runner and H is a freaking amazing swimmer, so we spend hours upon hours upon hours watching the summer olympics, particularly every single event that Michael Phelps swims. H would give Michael Phelps a beej any day of the week.

The winter Olympics are a lot of fun too, and we've always been big fans of the snowboarding events.

  • I definitely prefer summer, but I am excited about the winter games, too! (But not so much a fan of the bio things...).  I used to love figure skating, but I'm starting to think I'm outgrowing it. I love the fun and flair, but the new scoring system makes everyone's routine so similar and boring. Blech. I'm looking forward to the more fun stuff like snowboarding this year!

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • The snowboarding in Turin was fun.  I remember the American girl who was way ahead in her snowboarding "race" and then did a fancy jump to celebrate, which caused her to fall and finish in second place.

The Michael Phelps hype was insane, but it was so much fun to watch all that swimming.  And I got super excited because my maiden name was the same as the female Australian swimmer who did so well in Beijing.

  • i like both, but prefer the winter olympics. maybe its because im usually inside more to be able to watch them.

my fav sports are skiing, snowboarding and skating (figure & speed), bobsledding, luge. and whats the one where they slide the giant puck thingy with a handle along the ice and people rub the ice with the brooms?? hahah that one is interesting too...

in summer olympics i generally watch the running events

  • I also love the Olympics, summer and winter.  And I don't even like sports.  I think I mostly just like the idea of all of the countries coming together.  Like, this is something the whole world is doing and we are all going to be a part of and support each other and our athletes.  Warm fuzzies!

Fond memories of staying up late to watch the highlights in college doesn't hurt, either.
