Anti- Made in China (vent of sorts)

We saw these really cool strollers by buggaboo and uppa baby...sadly they cost $600+ just for the stroller...

So DH called me randomly today to tell me he has been doing research.

He wants to go Anti-Made in China for as much of the baby stuff as we can find/afford.  I am totally OK with this for safety and some political/environmental reasons.  The crappy thing is that ALL of the popular stroller/car seat brands manufacture there...even some of the "fancy" $1000 stroller brands are manufactured there too.  UGH.

DH has started calling local baby stores to get an idea on what brands they carry and where they are made.  So far, there are 3 brands he found that are non-China.  We gonna start looking at them in person to see if they meet our needs.

I guess I have to start cross-referencing safety info with country and price to narrow down the items we should consider.  Gotta go renew that Consumer Reports membership now.

Anyone know of a site that may have this info already collected???

Yes!  Per Perego is one of the brands we found...but there's only 2 models that we found that we can see in person in MN so far...

I will definitely collect and share any info I find.

Also, Britax is made in the US, there's a Polish brand, and a brand that made stuff in New Zeland until 2009 I think...

We've also got to watch for "Components made in China".

I know we can't do everything anti-China, but it can't hurt to try to be low-lead and as safe as possible.

  • I have a site saved on my laptop at home that has a ton of non-china brands.  I'll see if I can find it and send it over to you.  Of course it makes the stuff more expensive but I am on board with your thoughts.
  • I just did a little bit of searching and found a brand, Britax. Have you checked out their stuff before? They're made in the US and BRU carries some of their items. HTH! Good luck : )

  • My BFF told me that BB&B now has a baby store Buy Buy Baby (they take NON-expired BB&B coupons).  I don't know if you have one near you.  I know they carry Britax b/c she said she bought a Britax with a 20% off coupon.  I think she told me you can get the Buy Buy Baby coupons online, etc.  I've looked at some of their stuff online.  Hope that helps!

  • If you can, I would go with Britax.  They are AWESOME and their stuff is highly rated with safety.  We are getting a Britax for his "big boy car seat" - right now we have a Graco for his infant seat b/c our ILs wanted to get it for us and we didn't want to ask them to spend $600+.

Anyways, my goddaughter has a Britax convertible seat and its awesome.  It makes me wish I had one for my butt, they're so comfy and soft.
