AW: Kitchen reno has begun!

We ordered our cabinets on Sunday!!!!! I cannot wait. They're going to be beautiful, and we're adding extra counter and cabinet space that will double as a bar with stools. I will post pics during the process... I cannot control my excitement!

Re: AW: Kitchen reno has begun!

  • I'm jealous because my kitchen is just dreadful. Good luck
  • I'm totally jealous too. Congrats and good luck!

  • That's awesome!  I love renos :)

Did you end up getting the cabinets from Lowes'?

How much of the work are you guys doing yourself?

  • Very exciting! Looking forward to pictures!
  • When you see some "Before" pics, you will understand the need for a renovation. It's horrendous.. our cabinets and drawers don't fully close, we have this ridiculous wall vent above the stove that is so nasty that I don't even touch it, and our countertop is literally peeling.

We did end up going with Lowe's. The brand of cabinet is Shenandoah. We couldn't afford the Kraft Maid ones. But, these cabinets are beautiful, and there were lots of promotions - free glazing, free cushion closures, free base sink cabinet, etc. We're also getting a huge lazy susan, 2 glass-faced upper cabinets, a cookie sheet cabinet, and a built-in wine rack.

We're doing all the work ourselves, except the granite installation. Most places include installation in the price of granite anyway - we'll be getting a quote from Lowe's and from a family friend.

  • Yay, that's so exciting...we've started the searching process but we are just doing countertops and floors...our cabinets are nice and in good shape.

Does anyone know where a place is that sells the prefabricated granite tops?  I always see home shows were they cut the granite and install it themselves and we wanna go that route.  My husband and his father know how to do everything so we save a lot of money that way, I just can't find a place that sells the big stone slabs.

  • You can't cut granite yourself.  Granite is cut with a diamond blade saw.
  • They have a website called Granite to go that sells prefabricated granite in only one size and home depot is suppose to be carrying it at some point....I always watch the DIY home shows and they have the people cutting it themselves, doesn't home depot and lowes rent all that stuff
  • HD rents tools. Not sure if a specialty saw like that would be available, but if they are getting in a product like that, one would think they'd get the accompanying tool. GL... I would never trust myself with cutting and installing granite.
  • so exciting!  i love renovations!
